When researching my new purchase I remember reading about radio reception in imports being bad due to not being able to pick up signal or something?

I now have an import which doesn't have signal nor does it play CDs!

I can't find the link now so can anyone please offer a remedy?! Is it a case of just buying a new stereo unit from halfords or more to it?

On the same subject, is there a switch to put the aerial up, or do I need to replace that as well?

TIA

You need to get a band expander from ebay. I had to have one put on my eunos for a radio. It plugs in to back of radio.

Is the aerial manual or electric? If electric - turn ignition/radio on and see if you can hear it - if it's whirring but not raising it probably needs attention
, they are rebuild able.
If nothing, you need to check its getting it's 12v feed when the radios on.
If its a manual one, just pull it up!

The Japanese FM radio band is tiny and it stops (going up the frequencies) at Radio2. As a result a JDM car of any make that still has the Japanese market radio will be a Jeremy Vine special (formerly a Jimmy Young special biggrin).

Band expanders will allow you to receive transmissions from up the band, but the display wont be correct, so theyre a bit of a bodge and not practical to use.

Its usually better to replace the audio kit with something newer, smaller (DIN not 2x DIN) and better.

Thanks! There's no noise or any attempt of moving so is there anyway of knowing it once was working or it is just a manual?

It sounds like it will make more sense to just replace the stereo so will look down that route. Thanks for the advice!

P.S. Just used these guys http://www.discountcarhoods.co.uk to replace the rear window due to the cracks currrently being help by sellotape! They've done a great job for £90 all in.

Pull the carpet out of the way, Electric aerial has a snail shaped plastic housing underneath the wing, manual one is much smaller.
