Bin lorry damages MX5
Discussion
My 20yr old MX5 was parked outside the parents for an hour and this happened to it's previously unmarked bodywork.
Gutted.
Car was parked at end of cul de sac, traffic is virtually zero. Only vehicle I am aware of which came up was the bin lorry, and the dent supports this.
Spotted the bin lorry leaving the village so followed it back to the base and spoke to the driver. He says due to the first breaking down three other lorries had been to the village to pick up the rubbish. This wasn't a lie when returning home the original lorry was being worked on.
Spoke to the manager too who says it does look like damage caused by one of their trucks so will pursue tomorrow, although suspect I am flogging a dead horse.
Could have been a lot worse I guess...!

In Newcastle (I think) that most bin lorries are fitted with some sort of GPS gizmo that enables head office to check where they were at a particular time.
It may not be particulary useful in this instance but if they deny the lorry was in the street at the time of the incident, it might be worth asking about any tracking that they have on the vehicle...especially if there is a trace of your paint on the lorry.

When I worked at the same depot as where Bury Council's Bin Wagon fleet were based, the "driver interviews" were often held in the canteen and easily overheard while walking through; their unawareness of having hit vehicles was almost expected, as they had to manoeuvre through some tight places due to parking issues plus they wouldn't feel the 'nudge' if it was something 'soft' like a car that they hit.
I also heard those telephone calls from people like the OP to the office staff, it all seemed to be very positively dealt with.
So hopefully the OP will get his car sorted without any hassle

.It would have been reversing uphill and suspect due to angle little mx5 was simply not noticeable.
Spoke to them today, all seemed positive, they did say they need a witness statement. Spoke to neighbours who confirm the timing of the truck fits but no one got registration or saw the impact occur. They seemed fairly positive however, and not often someone who says they will return your call actually does!
Will keep you posted, poor mx5 is looking sorry for itself!
