Dont know, the gas boot strut is actually from a Scimitar and only costs around £10 new, from a company called Graham Walker, who deals in Scimitar parts.

Mine had a gas strut when I bought it, just one fitted to the driver side of the boot fixed to 2 brackets (one on the lid and one on the end of the raised part in the boot).

I removed this strut as it used to push up the bootlid one side when closed. I thought that it had been added by the previous owner but sounds like this is standard eature then?

It was handy, not to mention looking a bit flash in use!

Any ideas why it used to push up one side of the boot above the body?

The latch is on the same side as the strut which would suggest that the latch mount needs to be realigned.

My latch is in the middle of the boot lid and released by a cable, is this unique to my car?

And the gas strut was on the driver side of the lid, hence it used to push up that corner. I didn't want to leave it like this as GRP can easily be distorted.

I did look to see if I could resolve this problem but there appeared to be nothing that I could do to change how it operated, not without much alteration.

Kevin, the gas boot strut and electric release wasnt a standard item on the S2 so was probably put on by previous owner! If it was attached to the raised part of the boot (Petrol tank area) then thats why, its too high! It ideally should be mounted through the side of the square bit or through the wheel arch, I have pics if needed.

Hi Mike,

Yes it was fitted to the side of the vertical section where the tank is underneath, on a bracket made out of a piece of aluminium angle, this wrapped around the corner of the raised section of the boot. The strut was bolted through this. I may have a go at fitting it on again and moving it down if there's space to do so.

Cheers,
Kevin
