Cotswold Spring Classic and very sore knees....
Discussion
Rode this yesterday:
http://www.cotswoldspringclassic.co.uk/ Short Course for me
Pretty good event - my first of this actual type. Plenty of support, out riders, signage etc.
Couple of tough hills which many walked up! (But not us
)
HOWEVER - my knees and just behind them are killing me today. Murder!!!
Had to drop my saddle to get it in my friends car to get there and didnt get it back to correct height at first try - had to adjust twice at the start of the ride - and maybe didnt get it quite right still. Not a good idea for a hilly 66 miles!
Would it just be saddle height that has led to the discomfort in knees? HAd overshoes on for the first time ever but dont think my technique changed as a result of those.
So ride height? Or just more height gain than I have ever done in a day and just plodded through (slowly) and therefore knees have suffered?
Good ride overall though despite the foul weather and would highly recommend it to others.

Saddle height affects the fore and aft position of the saddle and therefore the position of the center of your knee cap, over the paddle axle at the 3 and 9 o'clock position this is small but if your set up is just in the window a small adjustment would move it out side of said window and therefore create discomfort/pain. Also if you tried to power climb the hard hills your paddle cadence would have dropped very low and you would have been forcing the paddles around slowly this would also create discomfort/pain.
When you have sorted out you ideal position make some notes and measure them so you can replicate them as and when needed ie new bike, borrowed bike or as this time a component change [as you moved it so much]
It could also be that you are not use to the distance and the hills but get the bike sorted out so it is not the source of any pain, position wise.

Thanks Chaps.
the 67 miles took me just over 5 hours cycling but weather was not great. Also, cycled with a couple who really wouldnt want to go any quicker and would rather 'enjoy' the ride than cycle alone
ps - Not sure I would have been able to go much quicker on those hills/winds/rain combo anyway

I did this to, although I took on the 100miler, well 105.9 to be exact from my Garmin.
Weather couldn't have been worse and all the bad hills came in the second half.
It was very hard!
Managed it in 7hrs 40mins and boy do my legs feel achey today
Well done for doing it, I suspect many pulled out due to the weather, I was on my own for pretty much all the ride.
On a nice day I think it could have been great, really good route although the hills were very steep, at least 5 or 6 hovering around the 20% and above mark.

Funnily enough, we saw some that were finishing the 100 mile route as we drove to the pub! Guys climbing up out of the valley through Frampton Mansell were looking very very tired and 'beaten'.Weather couldn't have been worse and all the bad hills came in the second half.

Annoyingly, the route climbed up into the village and then out past the village hall. So, at the very last section of climbing, you encountered an awful steep slope to lead you up to the A419. Absolute killer I imagine and well done for finishing. It did look as though the worst hills were on the extended section but we found the main hills (well this section is known and called 5 Valleys FFS) to be very tough - especially as not much break between the forst two climbs!
Oh well....
ps - And the extended section could have avoided most of that A419 section quite easily which surprised us....
That could well have been me, beaten pretty much describes it. The main road sections for me were actually welcome respite, I knew there wouldn't be any killer hills on them although cars coming past you at that speed in the rain was pretty disconcerting.
Still, it's done now and the pains will subside in a couple of days
