Planning a train journey with multiple stops

I need to plan a journey with multiple stops, is anyone able to advise the best way to arrange this?

I need to do this route
Leave Bicester North
Stop 1 - Grantham Train Station
2 - Newark Train Station
3 - Doncaster Train Station
4 - Wakefield Westgate Train Station
5 - York Train Station
6 - Dalrington Train Station
7 - Durham Train Station
8 - Newcastle Train Station
Returning to Bicester North

I will be doing this trip over 2 days (meetings in each station max 30mins). I'd prefer to not drive tbh as it seems a bit silly when they're all on the same line!

Can I buy one return ticket to Newcastle and stop at each station on the way or do I need to do something else?

The rules are that you aren't supposed to get off the train if you have a through ticket, so strictly speaking you should get a ticket for each stop. However, if you're meeting someone who works at the stations involved it might be possible for them to be "nice" to you.

An Anytime ticket entitles you to break your journey (and resume it) anywhere along the outbound and return journeys. Peak or off-peak options available.

An Advance ticket does not.

Definitely ask on Railforums where people will be able to tell you the best ticket to buy!

This. I just had the same conversation with Virgin Trains.

Some years ago I went Leeds to York for my brothers Stag do.

Only when I got to York I found he had gone to Knaresborough instead.

So I went to the info office and asked how to change the ticket I had (Return Leeds to York) to allow me to travel to Knaresborough and then later back to Leeds.

Was told that the ticket covered that journey anyway.

Only snag was the last train to Leeds from Knaresborough was the same one I was travelling on to get there.

So, seems that those bought on the day can allow you to get off as you describe.

Assuming you go from Kings Cross, I am not sure if London-Newcastle trains go through Wakefield. You may need to buy a ticket via Leeds.

But surely it was obvious the cheapest option was a Route Not London ticket to York, excessing the return to Any Permitted then buy an additional day return to Newcastle

Never ceases to amaze me just how many ticketing options there are and how you can mix them all together for one journey.
