Owning a DB9: annual costs
Discussion
So what are the cost of owning a DB9 including insurance, road tax and regular mainteinance?
Seriously thinking of buying a used one as third car and my own toy (the nicest car I can imagine) but realistically I am not going to use it a lot as I am travelling a lot for work
Would it be a too expensive toy?

Insurance: unique for you, do quotes online
Road tax: Google will tell you http://bit.ly/IeE7H1
Service: varies a bit and also depends on the age of the car as to whether you need warranties etc and what work will be needed.

As I'm not a broker and know nothing about you, very hard to quote you for insurance wouldn't you say..? You'd have a better idea than us, it'll be commensurate with a 6.0 litre car that costs a lot to repair Seriously thinking of buying a used one as third car and my own toy (the nicest car I can imagine) but realistically I am not going to use it a lot as I am travelling a lot for work

People pay anything from £600 to £2000. Road tax depends on the year of the car you buy, think mine was £390 this year for a 2006 model.
Maintenance is good and a big step on from DB7/Vanquish, 10k miles or annual. Depending on what service is due, indpendents will charge you £600-1000, main dealers 25% more, give or take. Lots of threads about negotiating with dealers for the right price.
Tyres are expensive (£500-600/pair) but might do you 10-20k miles, low use means you'd change them when they got old, not wore out! Cltches on manual cars are twin-plate so very strong, still last you 20-30k miles. Autos, no idea, but much longer. Brakes would be renewed at about 30k miles as well.
Buy well, treat it well and they are string reliable cars. Buy at the low end as well and you shouldn't suffer too much from deprecaition either. If you take a step back and look at a DB9 objectively - an early coupe, with a 6.0 V12 and 450bhp, fabulous quality leather, aluminium chassis and most body panels, at £40k they have to be the bargain buy of the century right now!
Are you after a coupe of Volante? Manual or TouchTronic auto?

Thanks for the answers. Just trying to understand as I have never bought or owned a car in UK
For the insurance I do not really know how to do the calculation as I have never had an insurance in UK so I do not know some of the details needed for a quote (that is why I was asking here)
I am 45, live in Kent, do not think I can do more than 10000 miles a year (I am sure it will be more around 5000), I am not the son of Bill gates but I have a very good salary

such a shame about the Bill Gates thing........insurance might be rather high if you have no "no claims bonus" perhaps 3k/ year.....you will need some advise on that oneFor the insurance I do not really know how to do the calculation as I have never had an insurance in UK so I do not know some of the details needed for a quote (that is why I was asking here)

A lot of insurers will accept proof of No Claims Bonus from your French insurer For the insurance I do not really know how to do the calculation as I have never had an insurance in UK so I do not know some of the details needed for a quote (that is why I was asking here)

Mmm 45 eh??
Probably a bit young for a DB9
To get an insurance quote, you'll probably need an address, a rough idea of mileage, details of if the car will be garaged, left on a drive etc, details of no claims bonus, rough idea of car value.. That should be enough..
If you can limit mileage to below 5k, garage the car, and specify no commuting, these things will help bring the quote down

Naming your partner on the policy can also reduce premiums To get an insurance quote, you'll probably need an address, a rough idea of mileage, details of if the car will be garaged, left on a drive etc, details of no claims bonus, rough idea of car value.. That should be enough..

Best thing to do is get the document first from your previous insurer so you have it to hand. I would phone one of the specialists mentioned on this forum. How long have you been here? Have you been driving a company car as that will help. All this said I am assuming you are free of claimsWhat about Italian no claims bonus?

4 years but I was driving my French car till when I could and I am driving an italian car of my wife.
No company car and got an UK driving license less than an year ago
Maybe I should just forget that, buy some sort of cheaper track day toy and wait to move abroad (as it might happen in quite a few years)
