Here is a new site, trying to match up people to their old cars.
It could take off, it could not.
http://www.autostalgia.com
Sorry if I am not supposed to post this.
It is nothing to do with me, I just found it interesting.

Hello everyone.
is my website which has just been launched in the last week. It is, i'm told by the techies, quite complex behind the scenes and so we're still getting a few bugs which will get ironed out as it gets used. So last night we had a problem and the site was not working properly which we fixed as quickly as we could. We also are trying to make it more user friendly for people, all of which will happen but may take a little while.
I'm also aware of Drive Archive website. The difference between us and them is they are simply asking if a car still exists and we're taking the idea a lot further. We hope that current or previous owners of cars can put together a history of their car before and/or after they owned it and build a timeline for their car. It might not be of interest to everyone but we're getting enough positive feedback to say people like the idea. The other consideration about this is that cars with a more complete provenance maybe more interesting to prospective buyers.
Because we've only just launched there are only a few thousand cars on there at the moment so the chance of finding your car at present is not high but that will change the more people join and post their car details. Getting cars up there at the start was always going to be the toughest part of the job but we have to start somewhere. So finally I hope you do join in, it had problems last night but it is working now so please do go back and try again and thank you for your time.

I know what happened to most of my old cars when I've passed them on:
2CV - went to Africa, currently in Oxford
AXGT - died in of terminal rust several years after I sold it.
CRXs - all three written off, one with me in it, the other two by the next owners, the idiots.
MR2s - two scrapped, one alive and happy in wales.
325 - scrapped, still "living" as a zombie track slag.
320 - written off by new owner.
535 - scrapped.
Silvia - given away, written off, then revived, then scrapped.
200SX - last seen ten years ago with serious crash damage.
Astra GTE - given away free, twice, then scrapped.
RX7s - both currently SORNed in the same barn, one as a donor car for the other.

I like the idea but whoever designed the site wants shooting. It just doesn't work. Buggy as hell, pages takes far too long to load, far too much clicking pages within pages within pages to get to the stuff about the car and then when you do eventually manage to open up a pic you can't close it back down via the 'X' and the browser freezes or crashes depending on what mood it's in. The background on the car pages is horrible too, far too busy and unclear which bits are clickable and which aren't.

Ehhh seems quick enough to me, give it another try. I will add some later on.To the site owner, good luck, but what exactly are you going to get out of it, or are you just a geek like the usual mob in here

no i'm not a geek at all but I think its a good idea, I want to see if I can make it work and if its successful then who knows what I could do with it. But that's sometime in the future. As I said earlier, I know the there are improvements that can be made with the site but i've got to start somewhere and this is it. To the site owner, good luck, but what exactly are you going to get out of it, or are you just a geek like the usual mob in here
