ive lost a wire i think

just put the alternator back on my 4.2 after renewing cams etc and can only find one black wire to go onto it which im assuming goes to b+ (marked alternator) but surely theres a thicker red wire that should go to alternator also.

whilst i was doing the cams i also needed to renew the starter motor so im wondering if ive connected it on there by accident which im hoping i havent as ive now got all the inlet bolted back on with everything

anyone care to show me the error of my ways please

Thick red wire comes out of the bulk head/ fire wall, goes to the starter motor, then piggy backed off and goes to the big fuse, which then goes to the alternator.

Small black wire goes to the alternator, middle connection i think, Red wire goes to the right of it looking at the alternator from the back.

I hope that makes sense ?

2 red ones that connect to the 100 amp fuse go on the starter and the other side of the fuse single red goes to the Alt.

They are 3 terminals on the Alternator but only 2 are used on the 4.2 AJP if you put the black on the wrong one the battery light will stay on when the car is running switch around check your voltage at the battery and you should see 13.6v ish.

cheers scotty...im assming the thin black wire goes onto the D+ terminal and the bigger one goes to B+
im still having difficulty trying to find the wire, im hoping ive not put it onto the starter solenoid otherwise im gonna have to pull all that lot off again to get my hands in at the thing

The black wire does have a yellow label on it saying it belongs to the Alt. The only thin black one on the starter is for the Solinod and it is soldered to the starter. The alternator wire has a ring crimp on the end. And IIRC it is the middle pole on the Alt it fits too.

just go to the fuse holder there must be a tail sitting down there some where with no home lol
