Take your point Nick - didn't we used to call that 'clocking' in the old days?

It isn't actually illegal to clock a car. Only illegal to sell one without informing the new owner. Or something like that.

Common problem on Lotus' is that the old STACK unit used to re-set if you jump started the car.

Lots of these companies around and nothing wrong with them assuming they are used for the correct reasons. Also, assuming the car is MOT'd on a yearly basis it's hard to clock a car a considerable amount - well, as many miles as you can drive in a year between MOT's really.

Oh and I bet you won't complain if your digital counter ever goes mental, as it will save you a pretty penny buying a whole new unit, leaving it at 0 miles and then explaining that at retail ;o)

rest easy....

if anybody was worried about dashboard mileage being correct, the diagnostic read informs both body control module mileage and dashboard display mileage.

Whilst the dashboard can be 'tweaked', the body control module can not be....

At any service or most importantly when thinking about buying any used car, simply ask for the result of this particular diagnostic check.
