griffith 500 special edition
Discussion
I have a special edition with steering wheel on the left (probably very few were produced - i live in Switzerland).
On the owners handbook it is mentioned on PDI & cutomer handover date : 23 nov 2003 mileage 58 and for the 1000 mile service it is mentioned date : 17 june 2004.
The problem is that on the official papers of the car the date indicated as first registration is 1st october 2000. I bought this car last month which was a demo-car and when i checked this matter with the seller he mentioned that date appearing on owners handbook are correct and the date on official papers was used in order to get the permit to circulate from the authorities since this model of car (new) is no more authorize to circulate in Switzerland for the time being i.e. the real date would have been a problem to get the formal approval from the authorities.
It makes sense for me but i want to check.
According to the informations i have (so far), in 2000 the griff 500 special edition was not in production.
By the way what a fantastic car...

What paperwork would you need to handover to the new buyer when you sell? Do you have a 'Registration Document' like our 'V5'. On this there is a declaration date of 'First Registration' indication when the car was first sold. If this says October 200 then I think you may have a problem. If it says (correctly) November 2003 then all is well and you can loose the other paperwork. Mileage supports later dates.
Or am I wrong
Or am I wrong

Right got the year wrong it was 2000 they announced the last 100
At a quick look in the members area there are a couple of 2000 LE/SE one being no.5 JOHNO
No.11+13/100 was delivered in 2001 No54,55 and 70 in 2002
So i think yours should be RIGHT.
Think there is a plaque in the Glove box saying what No. yours is??

Yes i have a problem.
the official registration document shows ocotober 2000 as first registration (4 years old) and owners handbook certifies that customer handover was in november 2003 and 1000 mile service in june 2004 (demo-car)
Apparently the dealer (official importer) had no other choice in order to obtain the permit. I do not think that the dealer was cheating. For various reasons it doesn't make sense.
Now everything is fine as far as the permit is concerned (no way to obtain a change of date of first registration) but if i sell the car later on i will have to give good explanations to the new owner.
This is why i need to obtain reasonnable proofs about the history/date of production of the griff 500 special edition.

It gets complicated as the SE cars were nothing special compared to the Griff 500 - mainly cosmetic changes to use up bits
The problem was that Griff production had virtually stopped. The chassis could well have been registered in Oct 2000 whatever as it may have been one that had not been completed or they used that date to get the appropriate approval or it was a LHD version.
The best way forward is to get a document search from the factory. They will be able to tell you completely what happened. Maybe a small few involved but worth it I would think.

I think that's why he wanted their e-mail address (see other topic) to get the info in writing.
Good idea. Or, write to them?
I sold number 88 which was delivered 14th April 2002 on the 02 plate, it was ordered on the last day the books were open. When it was delivered there were still around six in the dealer network unsold I think and some at the factory.
