Of course they are fast cars and it's all relative, but to me they aren't as fast as they sound like they should be.

Anything with a petrol 3 cylinder engine. Think Daihatsu Charade/Domino, Suzuki Alto or Vauxhall Corsa etc. They sound like a 911 (honest) and yet wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

Quite a few V6 & RV8 TVR's. To balance it out, some of the same are utterly batst mental in sound and performance.

Good shout. I had a Toyota Aygo recently with the 3 cyl lump. Revved the nuts off it to get anywhere......very slowly, but sounded great. The Smart car sounds like a mini 911 too with a nice little turbo whistle to boot.

Odd one this, my sons new Clio, base 1.2 engine but the stupid induction noise when you rev it a bit makes it sound like you are in something far more powerful (and faster) than you are, quite annoying really.

You took the words out of my mouth. I once had a 3-cyl Micra CVT as a courtesy car which sounded great.
