The Noise O the Noise!

As a new porsche owner I am in awe of the noise that come from my c4s 996 with PSE. Just getting going through 1st and 2nd gear is enough. However a 6000 rpm and the noise is amazing!
This got me thinking. About 1 year ago I test drove a Gen 2 Carrera with PSE and the noise on my 996 c4s is much better. Anyone else think this or know why?
