So i used to be quite fit, running half marathons and a bit of a gym goer. After my last half marathon my left knee swelled up - fluid on the knee. I went to the dr and they suggested i go for an arthroscopy, when operating they found nothing to be the matter and drained the fluid off. Now ive had the fluid drained off around 4 times using a needle and cortisone being injected to stop it from filling back up. I last had this done 2 weeks ago and already its swollen back up again and the next appointment i can get is the 27th of april. 3 weeks to see a dr to have my knee drained?! Ive looked into having it done privately and its £87 to have the knee drained yet £250 for the supposed consultancy required.

Are there any tricks of tips for getting seen sooner through NHS routes. I was thinking the other day of using my bupa (but have a £500 excess) so i'd not really get anywhere with that.

Ive tried all the usual blah about it effecting my quality of life and the long term effects of being over weight etc (yes ive tried dieting but i find diet and exercise work best to keep the weight off).

Its really frustrating as i've not been able to get back into the fitness regime i was once used to because of the slowness and lack of willing shown by the NHS Dr's and specialists i've seen. Has anyone else had similar dealings and if you were able to get a quicker resolution, how did you go about this?

Go private and get it checked properly.

hehe

Was a left arm fast bowler... once upon a time.

Whilst the knee is a big joint, it's not strong. We still haven't evolved enough to be bi-pedal. This means when one goes, the other generally follows.

Oh, and if the quack gives you instructions - follow them to the letter. I didn't, and I paid the price.

Yeah that makes sense, the extra stress put on my right knee when the left ones got fluid on it is immense it can make the other one sore !
