Bike for the girlfriend?

I am quite into my riding, I have a Cube and go for 15 mile rides at least 4/5 times a week.

My girlfriend has always expressed an interest so I am going to buy her a bike. Does anyone have any recommendations at all?

Budget is up to £250.

What kind of riding are you expecting?

I got my girlfriend a Carrera Subway (hybrid type thing) and it has been perfectly good for both nipping to work/town, and longer rides on bridleways etc in the Peaks. Cost around £250 as well.

Well I do 70% road riding and 30% general riding through woods etc so she would be doing the same thing.

My missus has a Dawes Duchess as she likes the upright riding position and the looks.

She's done 350+ miles on it since getting it in the middle of Feb and carries a good speed on it.

So my advise would be to get her to find a bike she loves the look of and is comfortable on rather than going for something that you know would have "Less air resistance/better tyres/all the normal stuff that male cyclist care about"

Because a slightly slower bike that she loves riding will give you loads more time together than the latest go faster bike that she hates and never rides.

Thanks, to be honest I think she will be much better off with a Hardtail.

I've started allowing my OH to ride my bike: faster and lighter than her old GT, which feels like you're pedalling underwater... As above, a bike she enjoys riding is far more likely to get used.

Having said that, the GT above looks perfectly serviceable.

He he, I baught the missus an orange diva. Gorgeous bike. In 8 months of ownership she has not even thrown a leg over it. It has not seen the road let alone a trail, still has shop tags and stickers on and has only been pushed on carpet.

The day it turned up we found out she was pregnant.
