Any one running on 15W50 Mineral Oil ??
Discussion
Given that most recomendations from here and elesewhere have said 15w50 and that sythetic is bad for the 1950's design Rover engine is anyone running 15W50 mineral oil.
Is this a wise idea for someone who's happy to drop the oil and flush every 6 months (about 1,000-1,500 miles) and who won't be using the car in winter.
My reckoning it that a good flush and regular oil is probably a better investment than Mobil 1 annually.
Also anything which reduces oil comsumption (15W50) must be a good thing right?
Any one care to comment.
PS Had the car out today in a downpour on twisty roads coming out of Scarborough (scarey but not too scarey). I felt quite confident in the car by the time I got home.
Also managed to get the Fuel Guard on my new Clifford Concept 600 to cut in after stalling in traffic whilst hot - I thought I'd broke the car and to push it off the road until I realised it had disabled the fuel feed

I always run my convertible's as a second car and do about 3,000 miles per year and usually run on semi synthetic Comma 10W40 and change oil twice a year.
I can't imagine doing more than 5,000 a year ever in the Griffith.
I run a Suzuki Swift Gti as a second car and do around 15,000 miles a year (inc. business) and its cheap & cheerful, low mileage, economical and safe to leave in place I wouldn't leave a Griffith even with my super duper alarm
Financially it makes a lot of sense and also I get little pleasure from running a 350BHP car in rain/snow etc.

PS But I can see why you can't stay out of yours I thought I'd broke the Swift as it seemed soooo slow after using the Griffith

not too sure about the type of oil, but i am think changing it every 1000 miles or so is not a good idea. as i understand, performance oil is built to last 5000 - 10000 miles as a minimum and does not reach its correct viscosity ( - long word, not sure if it spelt right, but i am sure you know what i mean!) if you change it so frquently. perhaps someone else better versed in this could comment (or just tell me if i am talking rubbish)
Not heard this before.
But know that its generally accepted that synthetic oil needs changing less regular than mineral oil.
I would have thought over time that oil would begin to break down and as such there would be little difference between infrequent synthetic changes and regular mineral chnages.
Again no oil expert I just put it in and drives me car
