27ft Boat transportation

Hi, Im looking at getting my boat transported from Breighton, Selby, North Yorkshire to warrington cheshire and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction (obviously the cheaper the better)its a 27ft cryton stripped out and no engine so its not the heaviest boat ever...

I used Shiply.com to find someone.

As a guide, I had a 22 foot Sealine (V6 Penta inboard) shipped from Brixham to Norwich.

£70 craneage from hard standing onto trailer (local bloke with Hi-Hab)
£450 for someone to deliver it (I didn't have a trailer, so that's Man, Tow vehicle and Trailer)
£10 slipway at my end

Bear in mind if you're in salt water at either end, the transport guy may refuse to use the slipway, so check first.

I also looked at trailer hire: about £100-150 a day
Tow vehicle hire: For the weight I was looking at, another £100 a day, plus you had to get your own insurance.

Hi cheers for the reply i wouldnt mind doing it myself with a hired trailer, where would i be looking to hire one and would a vw touareg be suffice to drag it up a slip and crack on down the motorway?

Well I'm not from your way any more, so I couldn't tell you about hiring a trailer there, but as obvious as it sounds I just asked at my marina if they knew anyone and googled "local trailer hire".

You'll have to know the weight of the boat. Not exactly, but to the nearest half-ton. Then they'll know what trailer to lend you so it won't be overloaded. But not massively over-rated or it may affect what you need to tow it with. (I'll explain later).

I have no doubt that a Touareg is mechanically capable of doing the job. But check the rating. It will be in the book or on a plate.
The Gross Train Weight is what you're after. It tells you how much the Car and Trailer combination can be in total.

There's a lot of opinions on this bit, but I was told that the weight is based on the PLATED weight of the vehicle and trailer. eg, hire a 3.5 ton rated trailer and tow it empty save for a bottle of pop and a copy of the Beano, and in the eyes of the law, you're towing 3.5 tons. If your vehicle's rated to tow 3 tons, then you're not legally towing.

I rang the police and that's what they told me, but I've heard different stories, also from the police so best do your own research on that one..

IIRC 27' is on the limit for some legal reason that escapes me. Need a trailer with slidey bits or something.
