What the **** is wrong car dealers?
Discussion
I am trying to buy a 911 and there are LOADS around.
Since Monday, I have called 4 (indy)dealers who have 911s for sale. None answered the phone.
So I left a message with each on the voice mail, stating that I was interested in the car and had a few questions, but I would drop them an e-mail.
So I did send them mails, nice ones, even apologising for the fact I had a few questions.
Not 1 has called me back or e-mailed me back.
They clearly have more money than they need.

Sent an email to a dealer over the weekend to say that I was interested in a car and I'd be coming to view it on Tuesday. Also said that I'd appreciate a call to have a chat about it and to arrange an appropriate time.
Got no response from them and as I was passing that way anyway, I decided to pop in. Obviously it was a complete surprise to them as they'd not read the email and in actual fact I've yet to receive that call or response to my email.
I've got the funds available and whilst it wasn't absolutely what I wanted, it was near enough. Got put off by their attitude and decided to keep looking... I also don't think they appreciated my 'stop gap' car that I arrived in ('04 Focus 1.6)

I generally find that sending emails when buying cars is a waste of time - dealers never seem to bother to reply. You just have to get them on the phone - ultimately you ain't gonna buy it without seeing it so rather than typing a load of answers to your questions most dealers would rather you view the car and ask all the questions face to face.
I'm no car dealer BTW - just bought loads of cars and never managed to get meaningful info or arrange a viewing by email yet.

I hate this - I've spent a fortune on parts at my BMW dealer, and every time go in ( usually in jeans and a t shirt ) the salesmen look at me like I'm something they've just stepped in.When I'm in the position to buy a BMW from a dealer it won't be from them.

Good point ... why do they bother advertising their email address? What is the point of giving potential customers an email address when they have no intention of replying? I have experienced the same thing as the OP ... dealers cannot be arsed to reply to emails ... and therefore I cannot be arsed to give them my cash

Try and get their attention, then tell them you want to speak to a real salesman, or someone with experience, and keep looking over their shoulder in hope. When I'm in the position to buy a BMW from a dealer it won't be from them.
i give up with dealers, i went in to my local audi dealers, gave my details to a sales guy, prat never rang me back, bought a car from someone else, they still had the car i would have bought unsold 4 months later
litchfield are just as bad, i bought 2 sti ppp's both times i rang litchfield, both times i left 3 messages and never got called back, both times i bought from scooby uk ...

I've learnt this, I emailed ahead as a courtesy so I wasn't just turning up unannounced (another thing they don't like!). I asked them to contact me to arrange a convenient time. As another poster has said, they shouldn't advertise an email address if they're not going to use itI'm no car dealer BTW - just bought loads of cars and never managed to get meaningful info or arrange a viewing by email yet.
If you're more Midlands based try Parkway Motor Group in Mansfied, I bought my last car from them and couldn't fault them at all. Kept in contact with me without being pushy, didn't try and get out of doing a warranty job that needed doing they just did it. And it's a rare thing to find a garage that has some nice cars in stock. I'd definitely go back again.
I've never understood how car dealers are allowed to get away with such utter incompetence and poor (or in some cases complete lack of) customer service - in any other industry you'd be fired within a week of the had the kind of attitude that seems to be all over the car sales industry. I'm sure there are a number of good car dealers out there, and indeed the guy we bought the OH's Octavia was pretty good, but they seem to be utterly swamped by incompetents arrogant idiots.
I would guess that for every serious customer who emails about a 911 there are 999 teenagers sending emails who won't buy the car in a million years.
The salesman is probably better expending his time and effort on people who walk in through the front door.
If you are genuinely interested in a car you've seen advertised the best thing to do is phone and make an apoointment to go and see it. If when you get there the car the car is parked 3 deep with a flat tyre and a dead battery, just walk away....
