Insurance, claims and fault/non
Discussion
So a mate of mine got an online quote from a well known insurer recently, and during the process of which had to outline 3 recent claims, all of which are fault ones. There was no option for fault, only "did you lose your no claims bonus". My mate said no, as his NCB was protected. Now, in the process of purchasing this quote, a phone call to said insurer was necessary to confirm some details. This was done at 100mph, and in the blur of speech the claims were confirmed back by the guy at the other end as non-fault. He didn't think much about it at the time, but considering this insurer was a lot cheaper than all the others, is now thinking he might unwittingly have committed insurance fraud and is now s
tting himself - hence discussing it with the car expert that is me...
So the insurance doesn't actually start until a week on Friday, and he is wondering whether he should fess up now, or leave it until they query the insurance register and find out they are fault claims (at which point the "I took the website literally when I answered the questions" defense, which may or may not wash (probably won't, somehow), or leave it and hope it never comes to light, possibly fraudulently and may end up not being insured if something goes wrong. Personally I'd say there is no other option than to fess up as surely they can't have been meaning protected NCB situations when they asked if NCB was lost. Thoughts?

If they find out and accuse him of fraud, they might cancel the insurance. When you apply for insurance, they ask if you have ever had insurance cancelled for any reason. If you say yes, then the price goes up.
If he's an honest chap, I'd reccomend phoning up and going over the details of what was discussed, and rectifying any issues with the policy. Its better than being stung in the future.

He should 100% fess up before he gets a non disclose letter sent to him and given a couple of weeks to pay the difference or the policy could go through enforced cancellation. This could cause huge issues for insuring again as previously said. The insurer may not even want to cover the risk of your mate changing 3 non fault claims to 3 fault claims. Also if he has protected whatever NCB he has quoted with them (as you said he had previously) then that may not be covered either. If he thinks he has a good case about the agent on the call going 100mph and not explaining everything then that can always get looked into as all insurance calls are recorded and they could have skipped through some FSA scripting.
Edit:re read your post and noticed it actually hasn't started!! Get your mate to call up and see what the difference is and start again going at his pace so there are no errors

Personally i see no problem, the question was, did you lose your no claims bonus??, as he still has his no claims bonus/is protected, no he did not!!!!Usually the question is have you had any motor claims/incidents/etc in the past 5? number of years.
