My dog's not well
Discussion
I'm quite new to dog ownership, so not sure what to do (if anything) with my poorly boy.
He hasn't eaten since yesterday's breakfast which he ate 90% of. He went for all his walks yesterday (about 5 miles) without any obvious signs of being unwell. Then yesterday evening I gave him his dinner and he didn't touch it. At about 10pm last night he was sick. He slept all night as usual but still won't eat this morning. When he is up and about his tail is up and he looks OK, but he sits down a lot and stares at me.
So, should I just keep an eye on him, or should he go to the vets?

Well, happily, after I left the message for Bex, I went into the kitchen to call the vet, and low and behold, he was eating. Then he drank and then he started chucking his toy around.
So, I think he's OK now. He's been for a walk and was fine. He's now sun bathing in the garden.

amazing the power of the vet, they don't even need to see the pet to make it better just the threat of a visit!I assume you didn't get as far as making an appt as a result of him eating. Any chance he ate anything on a walk in the last couple of days or any new treats that may have given him some tummy ache?

He never gets given 'human' food, so no treats apart from training treats meant for dogs. He only eats James Wellbeloved dry food.
boy said: Not sure how old he is but 5 mile walks for a young dog/puppy is way too far.....Bad joints latter on will be the result.
He's 18 months. The longest we do in one go is three miles. All his walks are around fields and countryside. He has energy to spare so can't see how it would harm him.Chris_H said:

Don't worry, he's plenty old enough to do at least 5 miles. Caution is needed as a dog is growing. He will have been full grown by 12months. Larger dogs need to be careful for a bit longer.
Bex beat me to it! As a rule of thumb 5 mins on the lead for every month of age upto 12 months for most dogs and no jumping to avoid bad joints later on. 18 months is fully grown so he's good for as far as he'll goMy dog also was sick that night, but put it down to gulping water too fast after her food earlier. She was very subdued for a few hours and wanted to be in and out for an hour or so during the night. Her rear body was a little humped so guess she had tummy ache.
Next morning bright as could be, obviously got rid of what had made her sick.;)
