Gentlemen,

Having to put the keys in the ignition and turning the key to get the boot open is driving my little mind crazy..

How easy is it to get a system that opens the boot without having to turn the ignition?

cheers

X-Works fitted a switch behind my rear badge so that I can open the boot from there, this only works with the ignition off and the car unlocked.

ModWise boot opener kit Ropps. From what i've read that'll do the trick for you. Little sensor under the plate at the back then you keep a fob on your keyring, rub it over the sensor and hey presto.

Hope that helps.

Know what you mean mate. Mine is a daily driver and it's a bugger when it's tipping it down and you have to get into the drivers side first to open the boot, whilst the car is getting wet inside. Or when you get out of the car and swear you pressed the release button, remove the key but get to the boot and find it's still shut.

I bought an alarm system unit as a mini-project for my car, comes with a key fob and a receiver / switch unit. The system can be retro installed in any car and used to control whatever you like. I intend to install it in the boot and wire it into the solenoid circuit, plus it needs a battery +ve supply to, unswitched.

They don't normally sell to the public, only to alarm installers, as the unit is just a part and doesn't have installation instructions but I managed to convince them to sell it to me as I'm an electrical engineer.

Haven't fitted it yet but it should allow you to open the boot from the key fob without opening the car or disarming the alarm. I guess you could wire it to only work when the main alarm is disarmed but I see this key fob being just as secure as the main one.

cheers guys, exactly why i love the TVR world as people always have some real good suggestions.

My chim is a daily driver so im always having to put the cover on her, so as you can imagine it does my head in having to pi$$ around with the keys all the time.

will look into the most non intrusive install and of course cost effective one and then make a call on it.. will let you know which one i went for in the end

cheers again men

I used a 12v remote garage door opener off Ebay. Transmitter and fob under £7.
I put the transmitter in the boot for easy access to the wiring and wired it in parallel with the original system. Works a treat only drawback is you have another fob to carry on the key ring.

That sounds like your solution there Ropps. I think i'd hapilly have another fob on the car if it meant i could open the boot. I am, of course, speaking hypathetically as my boot still isn't sorted and has no lock on it at current. That's your other option Ropps, ha.

Ropps, it's 32 of your english pounds for the Modwise kit .... http://www.djbeer.hostingbt.com/id30.html Think i'll be sticking one of these on mine once i have a boot that is able to shut and stay shut !

What about a simple magnetic read switch and a magnet on your key ring? Only have it wired so it works with the car unlocked. Nice thing about glass fibre is you can put a read switch any where as its not magnetically shielded as it would be with a steel body.

I've got a remote boot release on my keyfob but it is an Clifford alarm/immobiliser unit fitted by the previous owner.

However, there is a button on the underside of the dash, right hand side of the steering column that releases the boot and is not attached to the ignition live circuit. I also have a secondary heater fan switch under there as well, and I only found them after 2 years of having the car.

Would these also be aftermarket mods, or just another quirk in the Chimaera evolution/development?

These were standard on earlier cars such as yours and mine, the fan is un-heated air only.
