Looks like I'll be joining the digital revolution sooner than I thought; my wife's been offered a lightly used Nikon D100 with (I think) 24-50mm, hood, polariser, battery pack + 512MB card (and possibly another lens TBA) for a staggering £250. Good value? Surely it must be, with bodies fetching at least £500+ on ebay.
So TBH the purchase part is a formality (early birthday present ) question is - how good is the D100? I've seen mixed reviews but mostly favourable and some of the pics I've seen from a D100 have been lovely. Bring it on!

Go for it. I bought one after seeing the output from it. Until then I was a firm fan of film and scanning but the output from the D100 was simply superb. I sold the F5 and have not regretted it, the D100 is a really great bit of kit. Picture quality is superb but obviously the build quality is somewhat behind the F5 which was built like the proverbial brick privvy. MInd you on the upside it does make my camera bag significantly lighter and I don't have to keep buying AA lithiums (in 8's ) now.

If I was buying brand new now I would think very hard whether to go for the D70 or D100. Overall the D70 is probably a better piece of kit technically speaking as Nikon have had an extra two years to develop it. But after doing a lot of back to back tests as Mrs CVP has a D70, I still prefer the user interface of the D100. For instance I like to be able to switch quickly between single and continuous autofocus modes. On the D100 it's just the click of one switch, on the D70 you have to go through a few menus to get there. All personal preference really.

At that price I think you have an absolute steal so do it now and enjoy

Not into handling stolen goods! Its been offered as the owner has a business relationship with my wife (she's done some free web work for him etc) and has moved onto the Canon D1 MkII (?) with associated peripherals, hence a full Nikon kit with lenses etc.
Can't wait to get it, sounds like a great camera!

That lot new would be well over £1K, so grab it, even if you don't like it. The lens alone retailed at £350 (I had one), though it's not a 'digital' lens as such and would effectively be a 36-75mm.

But at that price who cares?

Now in my possesion, turns out it came with Nikor 12-24 f2.8 & Sigma 18-50 as well as 512MB card & battery pack. All I need is one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30070&item=3829090541&rd=1 to complete the set. Time to get snapping....

No, that's the cheap 'G' version. You can't possibly have that next to a 12-24 f2.8.

Are you sure you know how to work that lot sonny? I'm sure it would be better off in more deserving hands
