Wrapping your car ???
Discussion
I know this has been brought up before but what do you Wedgers really think of wrapping your car.
I've just had a quote from a new company up here in Scotland -- solid colour -approx £850 and Metalic approx - £1000, the later is with the thickest vinyl and he'll give me 10 yrs guarentee with it.
Because it's the heavier vinyl you will not see the stone chips or crazing through it unless the chips are the size of divet's.

Personally i think its the future..I had a quote for Dark red pearl paint on mine and just for the paint alone it was £900 a litre..
..I think it needed around 4-5 litres..Then there is the bodywork and the priming and then the charge for painting..It came out to just over £6,800...
..
The guy then said "There are over 200 different shades of red"..Which would of been cheaper...I can get the same colour perhaps not the same effect with a vinyl wrap from around £900..You dont have to inform DVLA of the colour change as its a temporary change but you might have to tell the insurance..People use it to protect a really good paint job or replace a really s
te one!!..You still need to rid the car of any open stress cracks or chips as i believe they will show through..Cheers..Ziga

Very Interested - What about any imperfections - as i have a little gouge
( ahem ) in one of the wings due to an overenthusiastic parking move !
I am just outside Stirling and get the growler back from the engine shop at the end of April so would think early May to do the wrap would be perfect for me !!
Let me know if you want to run it by them and if not would still be interested anyhow - what colour are you going for ?

Presumably you could just use some filler on any gouges like that before the wrap - and sand them smooth with some 120 or 180 grade paper. No-one would know. Apart from everyone on the Forum!
Yes that does sound interesting. Questions I have are:
- What happens around the wheelarch area where it folds under?
- Would a Union Jack cost significanly more?
- Can they handle the "SE" style under-spoiler?
- At the end of life presumably you can remove the wrap and you are back to the original paintwork?
- Do decals and coachlines have to come off first?
- Do they wrap the whole of the pop-up lights?

There are loads of vids on the subject..I should imagine the pop ups would have to be taken out..

With the cost of respraying I'm getting some quotes down here in the sarf. First one in is £870 including door shuts and I can watch a job in progress before deciding to book it in. Sounds promising. I'll see what the other four companies have to say as well. A wrap's a lot easier to find the readies for and it'll look good way before I can stump up the minimum of £3000+ for a spray job so not a difficult decision really for me. In five years or so I might be rich???? and be able to lavish her with a proper paint job.

Thinking i so want someone else to do it first tho.....
It does come off easy if you are worried about it looking tat..Im hopefully going to have it done in august for delilah's birthday, She will be a 30 year old wedge then so i need something to celebrate her years...I was thinking of a supercharger but im going to make her wait for that one...Cheers..Ziga Transmitter Man said:
Thats a cracking colour to have a SEAC in, just enough curvs in the right places. So Phil is there not an update about due for the SEAC in how you are getting on with her...
I wonder how well a wedge with wrap, ie the SEAC doesnt have seperat sills so no pannel gaps to tuck the wrap into, if you look down the side of any of the cars there is no wing gaps or other pannel gaps to help keep the sheets short as there use to be a max lenght but thinks may have changed.
Im sure i read on the Griffs a wrapping place down south hated doing the Griff and Tuscan due to the lack of pannel gaps and the most of the cost was in time.
Would love to see a wedge wrapped and see how they have done it.

I cosidered this with the 390se i had and was quoted £1000 for a full wrap. Pearl white with the bonnet, wing mirrors and SEAC spoiler that was fitted i carbon fibre effect.

This wrapper chap has a mother of pearl looking colour, creamy white one way and blueish the other, nice.Rob
Hi Campbell,
I agree a SEAC would probably look pretty good in a wrap done well.
My car's moved forward somewhat since my last update but the guys at the resto shop have been held up by various other happenings.
I think they are back on mine next week and the start of the build-up of the rolling chassis will begin.
Once it is rolling they will then have to measure up for the new custom shocks/springs both front and rear.
I'll take some photo's once it's rolling.

The wife had her Beetle wrapped a while ago (we were paid by a company to do it, she likes free stuff). Whilst it wasn't completely wrapped, all the obvious large panels were covered. It was done well and very quickly, once the promotion period of about a year ish, was done with it all peeled off fine.
It made the most scary noises ever when it was removed though, I could picture silver paint being peeled off all over! I could imagine that if your paintwork wasn't in the best of condition it might not be the same story, it stuck like &%*$ to the proverbial stick.
