I pay my 997 off next year and already thinking what next.

A) extend warranty 2 years and defer pondering other cars.

B) join the 993 C2S bearded possy and keep forever (try and get to 300hp) + an R32 more door for every day

C) Search for a 997 GTS 2wd manual in silver and keep forever - this shouldn't rust ;-)

D) 964 C2 + Cayenne/Panamera/Big Merc if kids have to happen...

Next week I'm sure I'll be thinking something else though

Too bouncy on Guildford roads, would never track my own car also ;-)

Haha why is everyone saying GT3 :-) its not on my option list and try driving around Guildford in one - kind of like a VW on fully lowered and on the hardest setting. Not nice.

GTS gets a vote and so does the 964 + 4x4. Quite interesting to see no love for the 993, thought everyone loved them even if the R32 (with cams and Milltek) might be faster ;-)

I've never driven a 964 or a 993, so cant comment on those. But buying and keeping a GTS is a great shout!

What does 'if kids have to happen' mean?

Assuming that you are a reasonably responsible adult, surely you know whether you plan to have children at some stage or not? I'd also hope that you would 'want' them rather than get pressured into it by some broody partner or wife... Your comment scares me a little.

I was referring to both your comments...

a) You should track your car. Best fun ever!
b) GT3RS is probably more of an addition to whatever Porsche you already have. What a blast on the track!

And yes - the roads around Guildford are not the best. A3 is ok but boring...

Wrong 993

C2 - yes, C2S - no

Suppose the kids would like the climbing frame in the back of a GT3...

Broody partners will invariably get what they want though. I took the "if kids have to happen" point as read, that he might not want them now, but you can bet at some point, probably with little warning, his partner will.

Lighten up! Sure it's just a turn of phrase - jeeeeeezzz!!!

I had a couple of 997s before but now I've got quite a good mix now of a 964 which I actually use quite a lot, an uber tax efficient Navara pickup and an A6 comfort barge. The A6 is great for all the long distance stuff (and the missus), Navara great for bad weather, work stuff and kid/dog lugging, and the 964 for everything else!

(...although I think the Navara is going to be replaced by a Cayenne Diesel in the not too distant future)

Borrowed a Panamera Diesel while my 997 had the gearbox and front suspension replaced (under warranty) and thought it was fantastic. Cayenne should be good also.

The Panamera was a bit large for town - stuck out of parking spaces more than an X5!

You don't need a GT3 to have fun on a track. If anything, something with less grip/traction might be a bit more fun...
