'05 ish X5's with higher miles??? Problems?
Discussion
Firstly thanks for the replies to my earlier discussion regarding 4.8's.
Having now "maybe" conceded that the diesel is the engine to meet my requirements would anyone be able to advise/shed any light etc on what issues (if any) are experienced in the higher mileage examples. I'm not talking 200K but more 80K thru to 120K? These seem so much cheaper to buy but I'd hate for this to lead to expensive bills, i'd rather just lay more out in the 1st place.
Any advice is more than welcome.
Thanks.

The 3.0 diesels suffer from swirl flap failures that destroy the engine, severe coking of the inlet manifold and head and particulate filter failures if used around town all the time.
Add to that the turbo failures and its a minefield buying used.
If you check it out and averything seems fine when you test drive, at least remove or replace the swirl flaps and make sure it will run at high engine speeds, if not, the PF is suspect.
Fit the new type engine breather straight away and you should be good to go.

i had an 04 facelifted x5 3.0d sport - acquired at 20k miles and disposed of at 100k
just prior to warranty expiry it had the following work
gearbox - (wouldnt change up)
loads of interior trim where the plastic rubberised coating was lifting
sat nav module/phone module
door mirror motor
2xrear wheel bearings
at 60k miles the turbo went but replaced under extended warranty
despite the problems it was brilliant - amazing how quickly you can hussle something this big along. 30mpg.
we have a tdv6 disco now - hate it.

Not even and places for them to go so they must of removed these from spec around this time which i thought they did this in later years but iam wrong
