ECU & Fusebox mounting locations?
Discussion
Hi, I have just got my first TVR! a 1995 Chimaera 400 (HC) It came off transporter and must have had a flat battery, so battery was loose. Someone had blown the main fuse on the +ve battery cable ( which was in very poor condition ), and ECU & Fuse box are also not secure.
Where do the ECU and fuse box mount in the footwell? I cant seem to see any pictures online of exactly where they go...
Any info or close up pics would be realy appreciated!
Thanks!
Chris
The fuse board bolts to the inside face of the wheel arch deep in the footwell & above the battery.
The ECU simply slides in the space on the left hand side of the battery, seems wrong I know but that's where TVR put it.
The battery box normally has a bit of carpet that flops over the top of the battery terminals, the birds nest of wires and relays then sits on top of the carpet, you put the carpeted kick board back in to hold the lot in place (hide the mess).
It's ugly, it seems wrong, it's a mess, but that's how TVR did it.
The button mounted to your carpeted kick board is not a standard fitting, it looks like someone has been having problems with the wiring to me and that's why everything has been pulled out.
The car may have history of wiring faults and the non standard button was someone's attempt to sort it, I dont think I will upset anyone here by revealing to you these cars don't have the best wiring.
The immobiliser is just one element that has given many owners cause to pull their hair out, however it's all fixable.
Does your car start & run ok?
If not I advise you don't put everything back untill you are 100% happy everything is working as it should.
If you put everying back before you have sorted any faults, you will find access to the fuse board for fault diagnosis is a complete nightmare.
Others have moved the fuse board to the cubby hole behind the passenger seat for just this reason, you may consider doing the same yourself as you are half way there already.
Good luck with it.

That button it the inertia button, if the vehicle is involved in a significant accident it will turn off the electrics, just like turning off the ignition switch. It was fitted at time of manufacture and is not an added after thing. Press the button to reset it if you think it has been triggered..chimpanlucky said:

Inertia switch just cuts supply to the fuel pump....Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
