Every now and then my 07 V8V makes this very very loud squeaking noise. It’s not the usual brake squeal every Aston has (I am already used to that). It’s more like a screaming noise. It’s hard to explain, it sounds a bit like as the exhaust has dropped off and is dragging over the tarmac (which it isn’t, I already checked that ;-)).

Sometimes after a couple of meters the noise is gone; sometimes it takes a bit longer. It seems it’s not related to the brakes, as the noise is not linked to braking and it does not stop, and does not get louder while braking. But I think the noise do come somewhere from the wheels / brakes, but it’s hard to locate where it’s coming from though.

I already went to the dealer, but then there was no noise whatsoever (she always behaves when I take her to the dealer). Also I had all brake pads replaced a couple of weeks ago, but yesterday the squeaking/screaming noise was back again.

Any ideas, what might cause this noise?
Anyone with the same issue?

Sometimes, you can get a stone or grit caught in the brake callipers, and it makes a hell of a racket. It usually falls out again after a while, but if not the solution is to stop, reverse and hit the brakes hard. That'll throw out any offending items.

Not uncommon for belt in the engine bay to squeal on startup as lube on sprocket bearings dries up. Pretty distinctly comes from under the bonnet though.

On the subject of brake squeal does anyone have a fix for it yet?
Tends to be more noticeable at very low speeds when applying brakes gently

This seems to be a reasonable explanation. Though I am still wondering how often this can happen. I had this loud noise now for the 7th or 8th time. I guess the streets here in Switzerland are quite dirty ;-).

I don’t think it comes from the engine belt, as the noise appears when the engine is already warm.

This weekend just gone I took all my brake pads off and cleaned, copper greased and sanded the faces. Car was quiet for a few miles but squealing has started again although not as bad as it was (it was unbearable). Should I be doing anything with the handbrake pads?

Replace the pads for something aftermarket. It's the only permanent fix.

Washing, greasing, rubbing down etc etc all works for a short/medium period of time but that's it. One day or another the OEM pads will squeal in some fashion - it's just the way they are.

Lots of pads that you can use. Go for EBC Ceramics if you don't track the car (people who have tracked said they are not great - I have never tracked so can't comment). But have used them on 7 high performance cars now for best part of 10 years and can't compliment them enough. Some make an unbearable noise during bed-in (c500-1000 miles) but after that they are silent as a mouse and will stay that way.

Also check US sites. The guys over the pond tend to make more aftermarket parts than here in the UK and have read about other brands that do the same job.

Oh and the EBC's are only c£200 for a full set...
