I have a confession to make. I like barging and I am 22.

I now enjoy gently wafting about the countryside and driving down the motorway at 56mph whilst reclined in a big leather armchair on wheels. I deliberately drive slower than I could, partly to save fuel, partly because it's just so relaxing and partly because I'm just so comfy I don't really want to arrive because then I have to get out. I now understand the point of the automatic gearbox, and can see why soft suspension and sprung seats can be a good thing. I have a playlist which only includes relaxing music in the barge, just to soothe me even further.

If I'd been asked two years ago whether I wanted a barge and would ever drive in such a manner I would have said not a chance, as I liked to drive everywhere at warp speed 5 where possible.

The question is, does this mean I'm getting old (or god forbid growing up, I really hope not)?

Yes it means you're getting old and sensible, but blimey charlie you're only 22! I was 10 years older before I got sensible.

Take some drugs and buy a Saxo, then come back to it in 10 years.

edit: Owning a 560SEC at 22. That's actually quite cool.

This is exactly why I love my car. Stick the cruise to 60, sit back in the lovely leather seats, and relax in total comfort with a brilliant sound system.

And when you are not in the mood for that, it really does shift! biggrin

No money left for drugs, spent it all on petrol!

Radio 2 is fine - I am 19 and occasionally listen to Radio 2. Radio 1 is utter, utter ste.

Your not getting old, you've just copped on early that there is different types of motoring while still being a petrol head at the same time. Nothing like 3.0lt+, auto, good seats and 'soft' suspension but still having plenty of poke along with a car that will cruise with ease at 100mph + all day long.

Well done too on getting a 560. I suppose if your going to do it you may aswell do it properly.

No way. I like to listen to a bit of R1 as I retire to bed on a Friday night. Nothing wrong with a few bangin choonz instead of News at Ten on the bedroom telly.

Some discover V8 luxobarging early on, others catch on a bit later and some unfortunates go through their entire motoring life and never get the experience at all biggrin

Bugger it, I read that thinking "Mmmm, am I doing the right thing, should I go and buy a bigger car instead.."

And then saw it was you posting it! Want one nowwwww!biggrin

And to the OP, the way I see it is similarly to Johnboy. You're not getting old until you can't understand any other form of motoring - we all like to relax sometimes, so don't worry, be proud and just enjoy that you are quite comfortably (boom boom) outbarging people twice your age!

OP - wouldn't get too fussed if I was you. Like it's been said, everyone has different loves. I'm a barge fan, but can't stand revvy japanese hot hatches. Dunno why, just don't get them (like every proper petrolhead though, I have had an MX5!).

Quite a few years ago, one of my mates at the age of 20 was driving round in a Jag XJ6 so you're not the only one!
