Last year at GFOS my 12yo son bought a genuine F1 team t-shirt from the team trailer. It was very expensive for a T-shirt (and bloody expensive for a kid buying it himself), but he’s a huge fan.

Just before Christmas holes started appearing in it, so we contacted the company via their website. They said all their products were guaranteed for two years, but we would have to send it to Germany (at our expense) for someone to look at it. I decided not to bother as it was just a couple of small holes.

My son started wearing it again for the new F1 season and I noticed that after a couple more washes it now has 7 holes in the front.

I contacted the company again, and they told me that they would only replace it if it was a manufacturing defect. I argued the point that if holes are appearing in it after 6 months normal use then the material is at fault. They accepted this but now they insist they won't replace unless it unless I can produce a receipt. I don’t have the receipt, but I can prove when it was bought, so do I pursue it with them or walk away?

Personally this is the sort of crap that I normally end up fighting to the bitter end.....

I hate being ripped off, I hate my kids being ripped off.

I hate companies telling you to FO just because they think they have the legal upper hand.

I also hate “branded” items that are nothing more than cheap crap with a badge on it (don’t get me started on my wife’s genuine UGG boots that lasted one day before falling apart!).

Which Team shirt was it - I cannot believe it to be Dread http://www.dread.cc/ who if I am not mistaken deal with a few motorsport teams merchandise (they also do the PH stuff which is of decent quality).

Hopefully it was not a counterfeit!

Personally I have only bought last season's kit off my mates in the industry (cheaper and 100% genuine) - and occaisionally with a bit of authentic F1 Oil on them wink

I've never heard of anyone guaranteeing clothing before. Sale of goods act it is pretty clear in stating if the item becomes faulty within 180 days (6 months) than you have a right to return with receipt, however if it is outside of this period they dont have to do anything.

Childrens t-shirt gets holes in it after 6 months shocker....

How long do you expect T-shirts to last? is the material thin or has it been clicked?

My son (8) has had stuff on for a day before and it looks like he has just done a 6-month stint in Iraq at the end of the day

Most t-shirts with printed designs I have bought have been shoddy quality. I always avoid printed t-shirts now.

None of his other t shirts have holes. For the price i would expect it to last longer than shirts he cares nothing about, and cost a a few quid.

Definitely sounds like his 'smoking shirt'. Stoners have these things, back when all this was fields my mate always wore a trilby while getting high.

I've never even seen him wear it out of the house. He normaly just wears it for the race.

Now they are saying its probably moths, at least they have a sense of humor!

Sounds like they really don't want to even look at the shirt.

I guess thats my son's money down the drain frown

I'll buy him a fake one to replace it, at least it should be at least average quality.

Why not send a polite letter to the team owner.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained smile

And I'm with you on this one.

Why not post it to Germany and see what they say, it doesn't cost much more than posting to the UK.

And try the angle of how disappointed in their product you are, blah, blah rather than getting all demanding and angry; seems to produce better results in my experience.

fk me, all this over a t-shirt? Put it down to bad luck, walkaway and buy him a t-shirt from Primark, at least you won't be crying when it falls to pieces.
