As a quick introduction I'm building a GT40 kit car, as part of this I need to consider what to do regarding axles....

Anyway, so I was reading http://www.rorty-design.com/content/axles.htm and one bit states
Rorty Design said:
To accommodate the obligatory longer axles, in plan view (and with the axles perfectly horizontal), the outer CVs should lie a few centimetres behind the inner CVs.
My question is, why behind? Can they be in front or is there a specific reason they should be behind?

The only thing I can think of is some kind of nasty torque effect.

That was my thoughts. Just not sure how important it actually is.

Trying to google for it has been spectacularly unsuccessful however as get stuff for golf or driveshaft angles. Bah.
