Right - I've just had a drive that's cost me £60 per mile. Why? One of the part worn tyres I just had put on has picked up a massive debris puncture in the five mile drive home. Since they're part-worns, I'll need two new ones. Total cost £295.

Anyone else had such a massively annoying happening? Please cheer me up. This is not the way I wanted to start a sunny weekend - Caterhamless.

I think he meant two new ones were 300 quid.

My best was going out in the snow two years ago - set out on a 4 mile trip, slid into the back of someone at about 5mph... total repair cost was about eight grand, which was mostly covered by my insurance but the excess was a grand and it hasn't exactly made insurance cheap for the last two years.

Ha! Yeah, I'm not quite that much of a mug. £25 each for part-worn Yoko AO21-Rs, plus fitting. £100 each for new. All in, about £300 outlay.

Kambites - there's a blast from the past. I'm an OM, same year as you.

My '78 BMW - bought it barely running, spent a fortune on it and I think just about drove it round the block once without mishap. Spent loads more on it - still thought it a pile of rubbish. Sold it (at a huge loss) to a mate who thinks it's brilliant and uses it for work everyday!

Spent £700 on an auction 523i. It didnt even make it out the industrial estate.

So £700 in less than a mile. Car was worth its weight in scrap.

Drove a couple of miles, hit a pothole the size of Wales. Knackered tyre, cracked alloy, bent shock absorber. Ended up costing over £1000

OK - so I feel a lot less bad about £60 per mile now, especially as it doesn't affect insurance (always ouch) or was something so rage inducing as a fupping pothole.

As for the Smith thing yeah - anonymity in numbers! Danny, mates with Dave Brett, Phil Goodwin et al.
