After reading the best drives piece in the Sunday Times last week the whole Morooco road trip caught my imagination. Wife and I thinking Boxster on ferry to Bilbao - drive down to Gibraltar - across to Tangier - then down to Marrakesh - Agadir and back up. Just wondered if anybody has done this and can offer any thoughts?

Been there, done that - 22 years ago in a Triumph Herald.

Drove all the way down France and Spain to have a cooked breakfast in Gibraltar.

Then took the ferry from Algeciras to Ceuta. It's then a land border into Morocco (as Ceuta is part of Spain).

I doubt very much that the hassle factor will have changed for the better - be prepared.

Nice hotel in Marrakech, but phoning back to the UK cost more than the room.

We ended up in in Dakhla, not much to recommend it - although the sun always shines (over 3000 hrs a year)

Note that Morocco is probably the fly capital of the world, you will have to share your food.

Yes, easy, I wouldn't do it in a boxer though, do it something you don't care about.

We went from Tarifa to Tangier, crossing is extortionate, no way round it, you have to fill in some form online to take your car in

Then it will be linked to your passport to make sure it goes back out.

Insurance is available from the desk at tangier, breakdown cover is apparently provided by ADAC, but I'm not sure if they did or not.

Yes, be prepared for the car being broken into in Spain it left parked up, and then hours of pain getting into Morocco via Gib' to Tangiers.

I wouldn't take a Porsche will cause too much attention the further south you get.
