I've been looking at several new cars lately, and every time Admiral always come back a lot, lot cheaper than everyone else (in the case of the main car I'm looking at, £5,800 cheaper).

I've gone to renew quotes tonight, changed no details, yet all the companies that were giving me low quotes seem to have disappeared? Has this happened for anyone else? I've used the exact same details on the exact same cars. Now the cheapest quotes I'm getting back for £6,500+ instead of around £1,500. It's ridiculous!

Have you tried insurers not on price comparison websites. Aviva, Direct line etc...

Confused is a subsidiary of Admiral who also own Bell and Elephant brands.
Comparethemarket is a subsidiary of BISL who also own Budget, Dial Direct, Bennetts and Junction
GoCompare and MoneySupermarket are independent.

How much?! Jesus. Someone needs to sort the insurance industry out.

Why? Maybe those insurers just don't want the business?

OP - are you sure you entered your info correctly each time?

Hi,

Yep, it's exactly the same details. Even if I click on the previous email of "view quotes".

When I went on Admirals website and got a quote from there, they then quoted £3,600. So £1,700 more than what I was quoted just a few days ago. It's a good job there was delays with the car otherwise I was going to get it this weekend!

I went on confused.com and no one would even quote me! I don't get what could of changed so much since Tuesday?!

Admiral/elephant/bell now aren't quoting me on any cars at all. Even for the car I'm insured with elephant at the present moment!

I'm going to phone them later and see what's going on. I was prepared to pay under £2k for the insurance but if their now expecting nearly double that I'm going to have to re-look for a new car which would be a huge disappointment.

If you have email quotes that say they are valid for xx days then you should be ok?

The whole thing about not being on comparison websites makes me laugh. Whilst Direct Line don't have their branded cover on them, they do have their other branded/3rd party white label policies on, ie Privilege, Churchill, Tesco etc etc.

Well I, like many others, am paying more for insurance than for the car itself. That hardly seems fair.

Fully clean licence and 12+ years NCB. I should be fcensoreding paying nothing by now the amount of cash I've handed over!

YOu should have fairly cheap policies by now. Unless your car is worth £200 or something

I have 5 yrs ncb and still pay £1000 for a silly diesel passat . Soon a car will be luxury not afforded by many, tbh I think a family of 5 with 5 cars on the drive ain't right either

I'm suprised at the figures people are mentioning where in the country are we talking about of quotes in the £1000's for anyone over 25?

I'm 34 and went from 10+ years of NBC last year and quotes for group 20 cars @ sub £400 to having lost them as were unprotected and had a claim 50/50 fault writing off a car. Quotes now have only gone up to £600 area with no NBC.

Live in south Oxfordshire.

I am ancient and get quoted north of £1,000 every time it comes to insure one of my cars.

Competition car insurance are well worth a call if you are trying to insure something sporty and are being quoted the GDP of a small African country by the comparison website.

I have been using them for two years now for both cars and cannot fault them on service or cost.

Living in London is what kills it for me. But either way I've probably paid in the region of £12k over the years on insurance and got about £1k back for a write-off while parked (a good 5+ years ago now) - so out of other drivers 'contributions'.

Just think they are making a healthy profit out of most of us!

Renewal time for me. Real mixed bag. First quote I did was with a company who have a red telephone symbol... £520>

Onto a couple of comparison sites and bang....... £230.

Still got insurers quoting me a four figure sum, I wasnt paying that when I was 18 and I sure as hell wont be paying it 13 years later !

Sort of - they are 49% owned by Esure (who it would appear would like more) but Go Compare claim this has no bearing on the rates they provide scratchchin

Tesco insurance has nothing to do with Direct Line.

I guess it's gotta be down to where you live as I'm younger than many of you, have less NCB yet I'm paying under £400 to insure my 530i and was paying only £600 to insure my 335i.

1/1,000 for your guess.

There are approximately 1,000 variables factored into most insurance premiums, although some do carry more weight than others. It's that high as some feed off each other.

Location is one of those factors.
