Morning all, after a moment of madness last week I decided to start looking for a 7.2 GT3 RS to replace the 7.1 GT3. The gen 2 RS looks are a bit OTT but hopefully the drive will more than compensate. I *think* I have a clear idea of the ideal spec:
-Grey or White with Red contrast
-Clubsport
-Front Axle Lift
-PCCB
-PCM with Nav
-Aircon

The questions I have are:

1. Is there any reason PCCBs are so much less readily available on Gen 2 GT3s than Gen 1s?
2. Why is the front axle lift so rare? This seems like a great option but so few are specified with them!?
3. Am I missing any must-haves for the spec?

PS: the ideal car went up for sale at OPC Leeds. It was sold within an hour of the ad going on :-( Who said these things aren't selling??

Not madness at all, you have finally come to senses, I did exactly the same thing last year. You will not regret it biggrin

I hadent noticed that PCCB's we're down in numbers on the gen2. Personal choice as with all the spec I suppose, mines got the steels on. I wanted those as I didn't want to end up changing the PCCB's for Alcons et al, as most seem to do to preserve them.

Again, front lift is a personal choice. This is my third GT3 and I know what a PITA the car can be negotiating speed bumps etc, etc and my steep driveway. Maybe the original buyer wasn't aware of this issue. A must have option IMO.

Your spec seems to have all the bases covered, mines white/red which i think is the classic RS colour, imo of course wink I also have leather which is a nice touch and sports chrono which again is more decorative than actually being of any real bloody use!

I didn't realise the Leeds one had sold so quickly. I have noticed a few others haven't moved at all, perhaps the more decent spec cars are the more desirable, even tho they don't adhere to the RS ethos....

Carbon seats wink

Lighter, and more importantly you get to sit lower in the car.

Axle-lift is a must in my opinion - very strange though, sitting in a GT3 and driving over speed bumps with relative abandon!

Also have steels on mine - could not see the cost/benefit advantage over steels.

Thanks gents. Trout do mean the fixed Carerra GT type seats that were on the 7.1 clubsports?

I think that is them - it is the option seat, fixed back, not available in leather.

...would go for the carbon fibre fixed back seats....they slightly sit you lower and more vertical ! Standard brakes are great (so wouldn't worry about the PCCB). Oh, what comes as standard are creaky, squeeky roll cage in the back. Rattles like crazy but part of the experience as is the single fly wheel sound at rest. Enjoy and hope you get what you want.

Stunning cars gents. Those pictures are making my feet itch even more.

Out of interest, something I can never really tell from a short test drive, how are your RSs on longer journeys - I'm thinking specifically motorway/autobahns particularly given the plexi glass (I'm used to the "comfort" of real glass on the gt3!)

I took the picture at OPC MS in 2010. It was a new customers car, and they are Gold wheels... smile You could contact MS and ask them to approach the owner if you want it.

only problem is winter when rear screen iced over - there is no demister so need to pump up the heat before screen clears ! Of course if you treat your car like a garage queen this aint a problem smile

the RS are fine for long trips when I drive to race tracks via motorways etc.

I did an Alps tour last September plus a trip to Dijon, all on cup tyres covered 9000 miles so far. Mine is a keeper, having the PASM system plus the lifting system has made it a very nice touring car as opposed to the 996 RS I previously owned.

My only concern are the central locking wheels if you get a puncture in a remote area and only cup tyres are available. Tyre Rack in America have introduced the Super Sport but I believe they are not going to be introduced to the European market.

Mine is blue and gold. How do I post a picture?

This jump is on the cards for me too at some point, just waiting for prices to come down more on the .2 RS. Once you have a GT3 / RS it's very difficult to go back to a 'normal' 911! When the time comes to buy my only must haves will be front lift and satellite navigation. Good luck OP!

I'm getting the GT3 bug and I have not even driven one yet.

The family won't let me add another vehicle to the garage, so one will have to go.

I'm inclined to think 'last in, first out' which means the Cayenne goes and the family are left to the ageing but highly competent RS6. Having a GT3
and the 996T may seem daft to many but I'll only know that when I've tried the GT3.

I got PCCB on my 997 Turbo. Perfect for road use. Would not get them for a track car as they are very expensive to replace (£20k). Most guys take them off on the GT3RS and put steels on. Then PCCB back on when they sell.

You could try PHer Pete ( http://pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/profile.asp?membe... ) he has a Grey Black RS, with red bits, front lift, carbon pack etc. He was recently considering selling?

If it is to see a track regularly (other than the 'ring) then you want steel disks and not ceramics. Gold accent colours rather than red IMHO - rarer and the used market seems to like them more if you ever get out of the car. Grey or blue rather than white for the same reasons. If you don't get the front lift you will have to get used to the sound of your brake ducts grounding, but they are less than 30 quid each on a 997 and bend to an extent that won't have you replacing too regularly anyway. Sport Chrono is utterly pointless. Nav, phone and cruise nice to have but you won't miss it if it is not there. Likewise leather. Folding buckets slightly better than fixed if you are of a hefty persuasion and make luggage for road trips, adjusting the harnesses and cleaning your rear screen easier. If you buy one where the original owner deleted the aircon then you had better be keeping it for life or be prepared to give it away when you are done with it.

I think that is all.
