Whats the BiBs view on the proposed changes to the law regarding the likes of the b2 and road angel 2?

FFS what do we pay you guys for..

To be honest i am not sure of the exact details are just the stuff in the press.

But it looks like the governmet are going to bann the likes of laser and radar detectors that are fitted to the b2, road angel et al..

They are happy with the GPS camera ocating stuff as that information os already in the public domain.

That sort of thing....

I sent a note to Blackspot asking whether the "ban" would apply to my Road Angel. Here's their response:

Dear Mr Cupis

As far as I’m aware this announcement concerns only devices that emit a signal which may interfere with speed cameras – as Road Angel doesn’t emit a signal (it works on GPS and laser detection) this would not apply.

Kind regards,

Charley

I've never really wetted myself about camera detectors, speed angels and all that jazz.

Even when they were illegal, if the driver had removed it before I had walked to his car, I never batted an eyelid.

Yes,
As far as I'm aware the press have misinterpretted the facts (as per usual). Some devices give off RFI (radio frequency interference) which is not on for any piece of kit, let alone radar detectors. The government therefore want to ban them, possibly quite rightly as they can interfere with alsorts of things. The press have got hold of this info. 'Government to ban camera detectors. GPS, radar, laser, the lot'. That's the press for you.

So does that include the LRC-100 garage door opener?

That is a light emitter? How can they ban a light emitter, they may consider banning emitters of certain wavelengths, but they could only sensibly go this route if no other devices used that wavelength. Not that sense and government go hand-in-hand If your 'garage door opener' operates on the same wavelength as an LTI 20/20 I think they may have a problem.

I wonder how many garage door openers there are, and how many LTIs? It would probably be fairest if the LTIs were to have their operating wavelength changed, rather than force every electric garage door owner in the land to make the change. We'll see....

But, were they ever actually illegal. The only legal challenge confirmed that they were just receivers and as such were legal.
Then again, the laser emitters only emit light, so how can that be an offence so long as you don't dazzle drivers coming in the opposite direction. The problem could be, perhaps, that you might be obstructing a police officer in the course of his duties. However, if the talivan operator is a civvie - no such offence. then again, they would have to have a pursuit vehicle with every talivan to catch those with a laser emitter. But, if you know you've just jammed one, surely you would remove the basic unit for a week or so, as streetcop says.
Motto for today: 'Detect & Jam'.

Thw proposed wording is something along the lines of "prohibited to carry any device which can detect or interfere with the emissions from a speed detection device"

It will make explicitly illegal the carriage of (not just usage)

Radar Detectors
Radar Jammers
Laser Detectors
Laser Jamers
GPS devices with integral Laser detector

Seconded!

My Val-1 has stealth mode and won't emit signals. Why should I lose the right to use it?

Where did you hear that from?

I use a Snoper S4Neo and my understanding was that it was only the Radar Detecters that were being banned Mine due to being GPS based would be fine.

Quite how they can justify banning them anyway when they publish where all the cameras are themselves is beyond me

Are they also going to ban all the radar emitters we find as we drive throug any town or city. Bank alarms, supermarket doors, petrol stations etc.

All emit radar,: we are surrounded by it in some locations.
