Hi, I am thinking about getting a sonos system, I want to include a ZP90 to connect up to a 5.1 Hifi System, My question is will the music be in true 5.1 surround once I stream my music and connect it to the Amp via the optical connection? And what is the best digital format to save the music? At present i tend to use WMA but does this support 5.1??
Cheers

I've got a ZP90 connected to my 5.1 using an optical, I'm not actually sure if the music is 5.1 or not..

I am using Napster to stream any music I want to listen to. Although this has recently changed to Rhapsody which is rubbish. I think I'll be switching to Spotify

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure most audio tracks are recorded in stereo. Your amp will output in pro logic or whatever but it won't be 5.1 and will probably sound better in stereo anyway.

Only 5.1 music I've got it done dvd recordings of live performances.

I think you can/could get 5.1 mastered sacd's.

Happy to stand corrected though.

It'll be stereo to the AVR, then you have the option of using Dolby ProLogic II or some variant of sound processing to 'create' 5.1 if you so wish smile
