For some reason the cooling fan on our 2008 Peugeot 207 came on after a short drive today. It's never come on in the past. It runs for about 5-6 minutes after stopping the engine and happens every time I start the engine whether I drive off or not. Is this something to do with the thermostat? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it fitted with a DPF? I'd guess that it is being the DV4 or DV6 engine

If the car has done, or attempted. A regeneration prior to switching off, the cooling fan is switched on to minimise under bonnet temperatures - completely normal, and nothing to worry about

You could always check the coolant level just for peace of mind.

Thanks for the replies. I should have been more specific. It's a 1.4 petrol. The engine that is shared with the 1.4 Mini. It's never happened before in 3 years of ownership that's all.

You sure it's the engine cooling fan and not the air con? I thought engine fans were switched ignition live? Might be worth checking your coolant or for an unplanned turbo timer installation maybe? hehe

French cars as long as I've remembered have had non-switched supplies to cooling fans, and other makes like Ford and Vaux have switched to this too recently.
Also, modern cars only have one fan for the rad and air con, so sure it's not that starting to work now as the weather (slowly) gets warmer?
