Have had an over fuelling issue for a while following a chip map. Was getting 150 miles out of a tank at best. Eventually the main Cat burnt out and broke up as a result of all the extra fuel soaking through it. It cost me a recovery vehicle, removal of the destroyed Cat, a replacement Y piece with Cat, not to mention all the extra fuel it used.

Eventually got the opportunity to take it back to the place who chipped it and arranged to drop it off on a Tuesday and collect on Friday. It was a 160 mile drive to get there.

Go to collect on Friday and they haven't finished it! Waited in the reception and was ignored for 10 minutes by a couple of grease monkeys chatting over a cuppa. Had to hang around for a couple of hours while they finished the job. Turned out it was the chip socket. It was the original piece at fault yet they said they normally replace them whenever they chip the ECU, but didn't first time around.

Eventually got the car back, with no charge.

Disappointed I had to go through this when it should have been done right the first time. Disappointed they had it 4 days, and still made me wait for it to be ready.

Won't go back and use them again. Shame as they had a good rep.

Some of these places have a lot to learn about customer service.

Sounds like they are spinning you a bit of a story. Chip socket indeed.

The fact is if you are running the 14 cux standard ecu, there is really only 1 person, Mark Adams who can re map this. I would suspect if someone has told you they can they are having you on.

Yes you can buy Best Guess chips, but that is all they are a guess. And i would guess 9/10 of them will be wrong and potentially harmfull as you have found out.

If you want to get your car running spot on and get it mapped correctly, call Mark Adams. Alternatively get a Megasquirt, Emarld or the like aftermarket ecu which can then be mapped by a lot more people.

ETA. I would get your car on a good rolling road and get the fuelling checked asap before any further damage is done.

Ummmmmm chip socket??? If the chip cant be read correctly the ECU wont initialise correctly, as it uses the same chip for the CPU program as the fuel map. I cant see how if one of the data lines / address lines /voltages was stuck the chip would work at all.......Sounds like tosh to me.

Wrong fuelling caused my car to loose compression , bore wash! Long boring story that cost me, excuse the boring pun. The car hasn't moved since all the hassle. Still low mileage 23k may help soon.

Sorry to hear that David. I was conscious of that too. I haven't checked the compressions or looked in the Bible to see what they should be to compare. Anyone know what a good 500 (Taraka even) compression should be?
