One of the great rivalries in the far world this and ive always been on the side of Porsche due to my love of all things 911. Never owned either, not likely to, but I just prefer Porsche. Something about the way in which Porsche have stubbornly developed a car that was born with the engine in the wrong place! I also went off Ferrari as a marque for a while, due to the F1 shennanigens when they always seemed to have it their way.

However, I must say that the 458 Italia and the forthcoming 599 replacement are meaning that I'm less bias than I used to be

Which one do you prefer and why?

Ferrari are more special and exciting IMO.

A Porsche will be a better daily driver though.

Porsche, for the durability, the character and the racing pedigree of the 911.

Granted, the racing projects had VERY little to do with the road cars, but the 935 won le mans, and the 959 won the dakar. did the 911 not also win the monte one year? and the safari rally and so on........then you had the GT1 le mans efforts....and the numerous one make series, and the enduring Porsche cup...........the list goes on

Its been produced and updated for years and years, but you can still clearly see the link between all models.

Ferrari are sublime cars- or used to be, but to me they have got uglier as the years have gone on, and always have a cetain 'magic' about them. A trip around the museum was amazing in fairness, but to me, it would still be a Porsche.

Strangely, given the choices from each range, i would still have a 964 turbo and a 355.

Nothing newer quite hits the mark for me

Have always wanted to own both, got the 911 about 3yrs ago & will have a Ferrari at some point in life. Given the choice of one or the other it would be 911 though.

Based on nothing other than raw appeal, Ferrari. Their designs actually vary as well, Porsche are just lazy in that area.

(Waits for comments about "can't improve on perfection" and "why change a winning formula?")

I will take an F430 or a 458 over a Porsche any day of the week. BUT then I think, hmm, Carrera GT........

Hang on what about the rather lovely 288GTO
Can I choose both?

Never been a Ferrari fan, so Porsche. The new Ferrari's are a step in the right direction though, so my choice might change.

How about the fact that the 911s drive train layout dictate it's superb packaging and shape. For these reasons the 911 turbo is one of the easiest super cars to live with. Not too wide, rear seats, plenty interior space, decent luggage capacity and you can see out of it. How many Ferraris can you say that of?

For me, 911 every time. It's a devastatingly effective precision instrument of speed and usability. Ferraris are just pantomime on wheels.

Both!

There are a lot of attractive cars out there, and I don't prefer one brand over the other - it's more about need, purpose and emotional connection rather than the badge. Most sports marques' got great drivers cars.

Ferrari for me is they appear to be more special. I still get excited if I see a Ferrari on the road or elsewhere, whereas Porsches just do nothing for me.

However I do still like the more mental Porsches
