MESSAGE TO TVR MAIN AGENTS
Discussion
I have owned an S2 for 7 years and in all that time have had appalling service from main agents. Having waited 4 MONTHS for a set of exhaust manifolds, I have now just waited 2 MONTHS for an exhaust. The first exhaust was FOR THE WRONG CAR so it went back. I still haven't got the TVRCC MEMBER DISCOUNT I was promised.
BOTH PURCHASES ARE FROM TVR MAIN DEALERS!!!
HERE'S A WORD OF ADVICE YOU CLOWNS. I WILL NOT BE BUYING A NEW TVR NOW BECAUSE I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE YOU CAN SUPPORT THE PRODUCT YOU ARE SELLING. YOU ARE CHARGING HIGH PRICES FOR (IN THE CASE OF THE S2) OLD AND SIMPLE TECHNOLOGY AND FAILING TO PROVIDE ANY KIND OF SERVICE STANDARDS. I AM A CLASSIC CAR OWNER, NOT AN IDIOT. IF YOU GIVE ME $HIT SERVICE I WILL GO ELSEWHERE AND YOU LOSE FUTURE BUSINESS. THE NEXT TIME ONE OF YOU GOES TO THE WALL YOU HAVE ONLY YOURSELVES TO BLAME.

We've all got our problems....
Shouting may not always help....

I had "the wrong exhaust" sent to me from a main Dealer, which they had got from an exhaust manufacture, the mountings on mine where different to the one they had measurements for, As TVR's do differ from one to another i could understand.
In the end at no extra charge the dealer sent my original exhaust and the new one back the company making them and they redone it for me using the measurements from my exhaust. Cant ask much more than that and thankyou Christopher Niels for a good service (in the end) as you can well imagine it took time and a little frustrating for a TVRless ME
Dont tar all of them at the same time with the same brush, we all have bad days and although no consulation SO DO THEY.

I do sympathise, I spent nearly £400 with my usual local garage to get my S running nicely a few months back and it was hardly any different after all that.
I eventually gave up with them and they do see a few Tivs, mailnly Griffs and Chims but I decided to try and tackle most things myself wherever possible.
As for main dealers, I’ve only ever used Gatwick TVR and Keith in parts is excellent. He’s even sent things like gaskets FOC in the post.
I have spoken with others for advice and some were good and some not, especially when they realised I didn’t have a new Cerbera or similar, which is a shame but they’re not all reaching for the earplugs when they find out you have an older model.
If you’re after an exhaust though, I’d recommend the same as the other guys here (ACT). These kind of companies are specialists and you’ll get a better system at a much smaller price from them than a main agent I would have thought.

Some dont answer your phone calls - some dont answr your emails - some dont ever het back to you when you ask them to fiind you a car when youve informed them its a cash buy - but in the end the are all human and display those unfortunate human traites.
All of them will have a good point or two - its just finding one that you can communicate with and that you trust.
Or go independant
I wouldnt move from the beloved TVR just cos youve had a bad experinece.

Hi Mikee Boy,
ACT are the business for exhaust, the main guy there is more than willing to talk on the phone and discuss just about anything, even exhuasts.
I had an improved gas flow for my V8S which he had designed, it is the nuts.
As for Main Dealers I have always used Newtown Motors in Wales, because they are so personably, you can walk in hang around, chew the fat with the sales guys and meet the TVR engineers. I ordered the exhaust from ACT and got it delivered direct to Newtown. Newtown Motors fitted it for me within a few days of delivery. Can't really ask for more than that. Try their web site, www.tvr-wales.co.uk (they have some wicked MPEG of TVR's). Aks for Glyn Davies he's the main guy there and very helpful.

Although ten years ago now, I have used three main dealers for servicing my TVR's. I got tired of each one in turn due to the very expensive labour rates coupled with poor service. I found it very annoying paying for simple work that hadn't been done, and in some cases work that hadn't been done properly. One even damaged my car but wouldn't admit it as it meant re-trimming the dash.
I took a recommendation on an independent chap who knew his stuff and I was very happy. Ok, somtimes he didn't know everything, but as his rate was 1/3 of the main agent he could spend that bit longer getting it right.
I would guess main dealers are setup for the more expensive modern models, maybe a set of S2 manifolds is way down their priority list which would be a shame. I know from personal experience that some TVR exhausts can be really awkward, but a four month wait for manifolds is a joke. The important thing is for dealers to be honest and communicate with you.
I suppose it's funny, but for the last 14 years that I've had TVR's the comments and discussions about main dealers haven't changed. As a few have said, personal rapport goes a long way in giving good service. I suppose it's the same in any business and good people come and go, it just hurts you more when your pride and joy is on the receiving end.
I have visited a newish local dealer who seems to know his stuff and is very friendly, haven't heard a bad word about them. Long may it continue.

Was very disppointed by Roath Garage, they took three attempts to fix a starter motor on my V8S. I was starting to get suspicious about their approach when they suggest a capcitor needing replacing because the battery wasn't charging and then this and that was wrong. The car and specifically the battery have been fine for over two year since.
I also took the wife's fiesta diesel there, and that stopped me using them entirely. They claimed they had corrected a tracking problem by correctly inflating he tires. As soon as I left the garage it was clear the tracking was still out, infact it could have gone around a mini roundabout, not only that all the tyre pressures were down and at odd levels. They also claimed there was a problem with the rear brakes, which has again never materialised, and tried to illustrate this by setting the handbrake cable so the thing came up at a right angle! Most alarming however was the timing belt they change sqweaked for over a month until it was taken elsewhere to be serviced as I was completely unhappy with their service.
As for the price, they did have a cheaper hourly rate but seemd to take longer (three attempts with the TVR), so I guess it is swings and roundabouts.

Newtown are no longer TVR dealers. They now have the Noble franchise (and Lotus I think). They still carry our services etc, but Roath Garage in Cardiff seem to be a very busy and popular alternative.

Good news about Newtown getting the Noble dealership, have you been up there for a go yet? Don't think I could blag a test drive, has anyone else tried?
All specialist parts for my S are from David Gerald - I think they really know their stuff and with a next day delivery thats enough for me. Service and routine stuff (even an exhaust and manifold fitting) aint rocket science on a 15 yr old S - I mean which bit is complicated exactly - its all parts bin stuff and mainly Ford anyway. Local knowledgeable, dependable, enthusiastic and cheap garages every time.
TVR history on a 15yr old car will not add much in the way of value anyway. I'd rather Ted (with 35 yrs experience on classics) at my local service mine, than some spotty young trainee at a TVR dealer charging 747 rates.
Rant over - but Im with you!!!

For what its worth, my 2 cents...
I had a pipes ordering mixup, not with a dealer, and it was reordered and fitted within days.
Having read all the posts (over the YEARS) about bad dealer service, I actually (in a day dream, contemplating the future) decided it might be best never to buy a new TVR, to avoid the dealer service. Just couldnt hack it, personally.
Edited to say, obviously I cant name names, but I know a main dealer who has just appointed a reparis specialist and the repairs specialist knows *absolutely nothing whatsoever* about TVR's. Mine was the second he worked on (independantly)
Its a long story... individual in question put my coil on upside down (or back to front, or something), totally missed my "leads and plugs" problem, which I even told him might be the cause of my juddering problems, and admitted himself that:
1) He doesnt know much about TVR's
2) The dealer does NOT know what they are doing
3) There were no quality control procedures from the dealer, just "Want the Job? OK, here you go mate, start with these cerberas" ... and he said he'd take all the business because... its business for him, money etc
So yes, although a new car is not on the cards, b
y hell, I could never buy from said dealer, which is my only local dealer. Ive heard so many things about this dealer anyway, had actually decided never to use them before finding out this crazy crazy little bit of information. OK, rant over.
