The time has come.
I recently got a golf gtd as a company car as a sensible commuter (55 miles/ day motorway and mixed). My wife loves the golf and wants it.
Problem is that we need a big family car for dog and trips (france, Italy, Scotland from south east) and swmbo runs a mondeo estate to solve that problem. Unfortunately I don't want to run the mundano as my daily car...
So options are rangie ( ff or sport), ml, x5 or touareg or big estate. Diesel estate; e class, 5 series, a6 or uber estate m5, amg or s/rs6.
I do about 12000 miles a year and looking to spend about 25-30k, don't mind bills but don't need 5 figure bills likely exposure!!
What have I missed, what should I get.....
For the avoidance of doubt, I already have an mx5 as a weekend toy, so that is not the answer this time.....
Help.....

I had a succession of 3.9,4.2 and 4.6 Range rovers when I had young children and pets. Wonderful cars but do find a non RR garage that does not see a service as a wealth creation exercise.
The more powerful the better IMO. Wonderful cars, magnificent distance travellers, ideal Children protector. No one ever stays in front of you if you want to overtake on a motorway. Or pulls out in front of you and staggers off up the road slowly.
It amuses me that more people do not understand that these cars are so popular with women for one reason. Men cannot look down on them. It is remarkable how good that makes them feel. They feel secure and safe in the height and size of the car. Particularly in traffic. That is because with two tons of car round them they are safe.
As Henry Ford says "There ain't no substitute for Cubic Inches". Grace, Space and Pace is the reality of the big 4X4. If you can afford one buy one. Good value but not cheap to run. And they do attract a lot of envy. Enjoy it.
If I had my time again I would drive no other car, when with a family.

Thanks chaps.
Golf is excellent but the dog takes the boot which means luggage is a lost cause. Also this is wish fulfilment in search of a cause, if I am honest. Had a golf 3 vr6 for 8 years which I loved and now a golf 6. No convincing needed for the mos of skills.
the RR is life time ambition, but I live in suburban Kent and dont really need a 4x4 so was looking at uber estate. I recognition use what you are saying steffan, 'tis very tempting to get the "proper" range rover but I am tempted by a lower faster estate.
Lovely to have a choice which is not urgent and where there really is no bad answer....
Cheers
