This really made me laugh in the office today, had to share:

My friend had his house robbed, they took the usual electricals and his new golf clubs. Witnesses saw people carrying dvd's / videos into a house a few doors away! And then a kid knocks on his door and tells him that "number 13 have got your stuff."

So my friend calls bib and reports it, it's still only days after the robbery (good chance of recovering goods you might think) and the bib say they won't do anything because the kid who knocked on the door won't give a statement. Begin from my friend and threats of letter of complaint (quite rightly)

Anyway, this morning, the bib knock on my friend's door to say they're about to raid number 13, and does he have anything that will identify his property? He gives them the instructions to the dvd etc.

They come back minutes later with a dvd saying

BIB - "Are there any marks that will identify this as yours, sir?"
Friend - "Yes, that scratch there"
BIB - "anything else?"
Friend - "Well, er not sure"
BIB - (swinging the power lead) "you sure?"
Friend - "Oh yeah! there's a cable tie on the power lead!"
BIB - "What, like this one?"
Friend - "Yes!"
BIB - "What about your fingerprints, sir? Do you think that there will be some on it?"
Friend - "Well, not sure really, I suppose so"
BIB - "Where do you think they might be?"
Friend - Points to the areas on the dvd by touching it "Here, and here, and here"
BIB - "Thanks, we'll be right back!"

Apparently they went back and nicked the little chav on the spot.

Fantastic!

Well, it was going OK until the fingerprints bit. You can't have it both ways! "Hardening up" the evidence in such a manner is but one step from fabricating it. Cue outlaw/roadrage - Streaky

Humm! Noticeably no comments from our BiB (and where's outlaw/roadrage when you need him?) - Streaky

They have kept away so that you can enjoy a post about an account from a descendant of Aesop?

Now there was a tale many, many years ago when Lunnun was attacked by the IRA. Suspects charged and taken to Court. One of the crutial pieces of evidence was that a glove was found in possession of one of them with its mate found at the scene. The glove in possession of one of the arrested appeared on the list of Property of prisoner on the Arrest/Charge sheet at the very last item. Very suspicious what?. BiB in the box given third degree by defence on possible plant. His explanation as to why last was that having come across a single item of what should be a pair, he waited until the end to record the single item.

Likewise from the 60"s - DC contacted by Forensic who queried why a piece of cannabis sent for analysis was on its third trip to the Lab?

You will appreciate that the above is all hearsay and I cannot confirm the truthfullness but if you start nodding your head, what officer in his right mind is going to risk his pension and hefty lump sum?

DVD.

The Aesop thing does happen occasionally. I was involved in a hit and run (no injury) when some uninsured scrote hit my car and pushed me into another.

As I drove a Saab, it was almost undamaged, unlike the other cars. I drove off and gave chase. 15 mins on the phone talking the BiB in to us and they arrested him.

I went to the station to give an interview. When asked about the car that I was pushed into I said "it was a green one, not quite sure what". BiB's response "Could it have been a Renault"? me "well, yes, I suppose it could" "and might it have been a Megane"? Now you come to mention it, "It was a green Renault Megane"

When asked about the driver "Did he have any distinguishing features such as facial jewellery"? me "I think he was wearing glasses" "And were they small gold ones by any chance"? me "The driver was wearing small gold framed glasses"

OK, I was lead in my statement, but there were lots of "looks" that ensured we both knew why the interview was conducted that way.

Without the additional detail the scrote would have got off. He was aleady wanted for similar offences and had skipped bail, so I am sure the BiB didn't want to loose track of him again.

I don't have a problem with ensureing there is sufficient evidence to convict when it's obvious what's going on.

Come on Rob he was only checking to see if the information he had you could confirm.

Remember it was your replies that confirmed matters and if uncorrect you would have said so....wouldn't you?

Sounds like an ok copper to me! Who here can really complain when a chav gets screwed over in this fashion? After all, just think how many other peoples possessions have done a runner due to him?
Method was a fair one in my eyes.
The scum are using the system to evade capture/punishment so whatever it ttakes to get the basts is ok by me.

Methods may not be classed as PC (pardon the pun) , but as said Chav has probably robbed several other innocent people , lets hope he gets what he deserves
