Friend of mine on the next farm over has a discovery 4....must be about 18 months old now. His wife uses it to run the kids to school in the mornings, today she got a shock, around 3 miles from home she smelled a burning smell and started to smell smoke, pulled over for a proper fire to erupt from behind the dash.

The older lad (7) got out of the back ok but the younger girl (4) panicked and was pulling hard against her belt making it very difficult for her mum to get the buckle undone. She did get her out and tho the youngest is being treated for smoke inhaling everyone's ok.

Pretty shocked this could happen in a modern vehicle. My friends obviously pretty angry at the minute also and wondering where he goes from here....is his case with his insurance company? Or landrover? Anyone else heard of this happening?

Depends what caused it, as to how pissed off he should be.

Insurance company first.

Take lots of photos.

Inform dealer, and Land Rover head office will probably be very interested - go via customer services. I would expect as a minimum they would want to send an engineer to look at it to see if it is a one time event or potentially a batch issue.

He has it insured, let the insurers chase recouperation if theres a case for it, which there probably will be if he has put oil coolant etc in when he was supposed to. Sounds like an electrical fire to me, not alot else to catch light in the dash, unless there was no water in cooling system or sometrhing and it was fire spreading from teh engine bay!

Sounds like a really scary situation, glad they are all ok.

Stupid fking post. No wonder internet rumours end up spiraling out of control with a huge mountain of bullst being passed off as fact.

Don't get me wrong... it sounds like a horrific event, but:

-at best this is just 3rd, 4th or 5th party passed on info - you were not there!
-at worse you could be making it all up
-you have NO facts what so ever, yet are already making conclusions and judgements
-you are publicly slandering and accusing a car brand - based on currently NO evidence of what happened

Hopefully the PH mods will see sense and delete this thread.
