I have been approached by a vehicle sourcing company for my car to be used in a filming shoot for 2 days this week. They look professional enough www.actionvehicles.com but they have asked what would my fee be...and I don't have a clue?

With the all the different cars owned by people on here, I am sure it is not uncommon for these kind of requests (remembering a trans am used for a Rihanna video recently)...just a point in the right direction would be appreciated or a word of warning or experiences.

Cheers

Action Vehicles have been around for years, they used to be based at Shepperton Studios back in the late 90's when I was also based there. There was always a selection of 'The Bill' cars parked in the car park, plus loads of interesting stuff. They're reputable as far as I know.

In terms of the fee, you could always ask them what they'd normally expect to pay. In general in the Film and TV industry there are guideline rates for the supply of people and certain services, they will do this regularly, and will have a figure in mind I'm sure. The fee may or may not include expenses (ie it could be an all-inclusive figure), be certain to ask.

I'll make a slightly educated guess and suggest the fee may be in the region of £100 per day plus mileage at £0.45 per mile (whether that's to include commuting mileage or not I don't know, probably not, but ask). It might be more, as they may pay you for your time as well as the vehicle hire.

Hope this helps.

No idea, but I'd have a chat with your insurer too...

It's generally the norm that hirers in this industry supply the insurance too, although the excess can be high (they should pick that up though).

OP, just clarify this too.

I can't help with the pricing issue but having worked on a number of film sets I'd advise you to take lots of photos both inside and out.

More than just giving you a comeback if something gets damaged, it's about letting the producer know how much you value the car and the respect with which you expect it to be treated (Most likely it will be treated with respect but it's good to make the point beforehand).

Find out what they intend to do with the car, will be driven hard, will it come in to contact with cosmetics like fake blood and how will it be put right if the car does get damaged. This should be bread n butter stuff to someone like action cars.

I'm not trying to put you off as it's strangely satisfying to contribute to a film and see your P&J take a staring role on screen. Best of luck whatever you decide to do.
