I am with you on this. I almost never press the button while walking, and if I do I make a point of waiting for the lights to change!

It annoys me no end seeing someone pressing the button when there is light traffic, and just crossing anyway before the lights turn red smash

I used to press every traffic light button when I was young, especially if I wasn't crossing the road.
Same thing with elevators, press every single button just before you leave the thing.

This
Everyone does it when they're young, hell I know I did and I'm sure OP probably did too.

Didn't we have a similiar thread week before last?

Not at the age of 20 or 30, though...

I do the opposite..

Never push the button - just wait for a gap in the traffic.

I know how annoying/pointless it is as a driver, so I wait as long as it takes until a gap appears.

Amazing, I didn't know it was possible to get angry about things like this.

My daughter showed me a button on the underside of the normal button push housing which made the lights change straight away (not present on them all but a fair few..........)

I can't see the problem, quite often you can't tell how long it will be before a suitable gap in the traffic, so press the button so you can cross asap. Then if there is a gap before the light goes red, bonus!

As a driver, it really makes little difference to my journey...

I've seen a neighbour of mine press and wait even though there wasn't a single bit of traffic in sight ie. a good 200+ yards each way

Absolutely no problem with this, how can anyone be annoyed by a pedestrian pressing the button then crossing the road if they see a safe gap or cars stop coming.

kids or people who let their kids press the button without crossing now thats another story..

I concur. Numerous times I've waited to cross having pressed the button only for the lights to stay green when traffic eases up. I'm not German and therefore don't feel the need to wait until I'm allowed to cross.

So many people just press it without even looking at the road first. Then they continue not looking at the road, staring at their feet/phone/the red man until the green man appears then they stagger across in a blind stupor. Why can't the stupid s think for themselves and judge when to cross based on the actual traffic? This doesn't really annoy me as such, just find it baffling that people can't do something simple like crossing a road without having a beeping tone and a light to tell them when it's safe...

Really? So if you were stood at a crossing, you'd pressed the button to cross but before the green man appears to help you safely across the road a gap opened up you wouldn't cross the road because the green man hasn't said go?

I take it you haven't ever tried crossing a city junction nose to tail with 30mph traffic then? Without a stop button youll be there all day

Well I'm obviously not talking about that. You'd look at the road and have no choice but to wait. I mean people who will stand dumbly for minutes waiting for the lights to change at 10pm when there's nothing around.

Sods law I wait for a gap and nothing appears, press button and gap appears. I wait to be polite, unless I can get across and look like it wasn't me......
