Starmist mica blue

I intend to repaint my car. The actual colour is Sapphire blue.

This colour is not enough deep for me (too grey).

I am interested by Starfire (not starmist) mica blue but it seems that TVR encountered some difficulties with this colour (reaction with polyester or other).

Is it right ?

Any recommendation ?

My interior is light grey/blue, the carpet is night blue.

mine is in mica blue which is actualy called starmist blue, i was told this when i ordered a touch up paint pot ,i gave them the paint code and starmist blue came, very nice coulour when polished, crap when dirty

I think that Starfire mica blue is less metallic than Starmist.

Starmist has a little more flake than Starfire.

This is why I would prefer Starfire if this colour is without any problem, for sure.

But I am not sure that Starfire still exists ? due to some problems ?

Mine is Starmist Blue (surprisingly) and if I could afford it I would have it repainted. It looks pretty good when clean in strong sunlight (when the metal flakes shine) but on a gloomy day it looks very dull and uninteresting.

Horses for courses and all that.

How much are you expecting to pay for a decent job, and where from?

Back in 1988, Hrley Davidson had proplems with a blue metallic paint fading very quickly in sunlight when applied to ABS. The same paint was perfect on the metal parts. Could this be a similar problem, do you think?

I feel exactly the same with the actual colour (Sapphire blue metallic), very nice when sunny, very dull otherwise. And you know the weather in Belgium.

This is the reason I would like to change for a colour less metallic.

It is difficult to give a price. The car was crashed at the rear (only the body, not the chassis fortunately), which requires 100 working hours.

It will cost me an extra of 1250 € for the front and the doors (using the same colour) or 1450 € (if I want to change the colour..)

Good choice of colour!! No problem wirh this paint colour over the last 12 yrs.

I looked at some blue colours last year. My top choices were: ice blue (light blue, very nice on a Griff), Red Bull blue (very strong, great) and Cosmos Blue.
Or mine: Iris Blue Pearl.

Or what about iced titanium (hmmm)? You might want to change the carpet for this one.

Mica Blue has been around for ages and used on wedges, S, Griff, Chim and Tuscans. Full name is Starfire Mica Blue and is different to Starmist Blue (slightly). I think it has less, or smaller metalflake in it so looks slightly deeper blue. I haven't heard any problems with this colour. Mine is Mica Blue (see profile and others listed) but I like both shades - and cosmos blue - and I think yours looks fantastic! But personally Halcyon Atlantis is tops.

Ours is a Mercedes colour - Azurite Blue - darker than starmist and with a purple hue when the light hits it at a low angle.

Hi - can confirm there is no problem getting starfire mica blue as have just had my wedge resprayed.. the paint code is an ICI one which I can't find at the mo - any decent spray shop should have it listed in their book.

For example, from Aston Martin range, Mendip blue or Antrim blue ?

I will try the starfire mica blue but I still have more questions.

Do you know how many lays of paint are necessary to get a deep colour aspect?

Do you know about the TVR factory standards for a new car (number of coats)?

My bodyworkman uses a black undercoating before spreading one lay of paint on the body to use less paint. It seems to me the original undercoat should be white or light green. What difference could it make when undercoat is black ?

Very strange! It looks a completely different colour to mine, even in the sun? and mine is definately the original paintwork!
My owners manual says Starfire Mica blue code P-158.

Yes, it is very strange but it is always difficult to judge from pictures.

It is why I have seized the opportunity to meet 2 owners in Antwerp with a Griff in the same colour (Starfire mica blue). Very nice. I have also asked to my bodyworkman for a test with P-148 paint code.

It seems that the colour lloks like yours and is darker than the other, even in the sun.

When I purchased my Griff it was Starmist blue,and you are right,it's a bit dull and boring.I have recently rebuilt the car completely and resprayed it Imperial blue.Almost every single person that has seen the car male or female has said "what a fantastic colour" which is very nice when I deliberated for four months what colour to paint it.I am really glad I chose this colour in the end,because every time I go into the workshop I stop and look at it and think,year, it's gorgeous.
