GT3 2 piece brake disc pron
Discussion
well its officially track season, my car is still in bits and im working away from home all this week so i figured id use up some free time by posting random thoughts and equipment porn. whats a forum for if you cant post up and tempt folks to go out and spend a bunch more money that they dont need to right
anyways, heres some 2 piece brembo brake disc. these arent the cheaper 2 piece brembos from their top tier GT line (part number 102.8007A etc) that alcon, girodisc, performance friction etc are all competing with, these are their proper racing setup.
they make these in a few groove variations to accommodate differing situation requirements, but these with the T3 pattern have the highest stopping power of any metal rotor brembo make. one front and one rear....

they are noticeably lighter than the stock cup discs, so about 5lbs a corner over the oem GT3 discs maybe. ive never actually weighed them.
GT car fitment (well fronts), you cant run the rears on the road car setup without doing some work. you would need to remove all the handbrake stuff and also permanently modify the wheel carrier itself to allow them to fit on. the 5 holes on the hat are also a larger diameter than those on the street discs to allow them to fit on the centrelock hubs. this wouldnt be an issue since folk run the stock cup discs on street cars for track days (and these also have larger holes) just fine.
im sure all the differences between the PFC, alcon and brembo GT rotors have been done to death. Depending on which PFC you choose you may not have a true floating rotor design, just a 2 piece and can get tricky when you want to use a non PFC pad.
the alcons and the brembo GTs are pretty close to each other. in terms of outright performance it seems like the brembos are ahead but there appears to be little in it and the alcons are cheaper. ive only used both briefly in other folks track day cars so dont have a lot of time on either to really give any info.
these brembos are designed solely for racing, this is what flying lizard use on their current RSRs for example and they can take a far more aggressive pad than the above discs could without just chewing up and overheating. this is their real benefit, you can run aggressive pads and still remain fade free with decent life. even still, on something gentle like the RS29 pad that most folks use as their trackday pad these will outperform the PCCBs on the current generation street cars both in terms of heat handling and stopping power, put on a proper sprint pad and the increased abilities only multiply. pricing reflects this, depending on discounts etc you are looking at about £1000 per corner for these in 996 sizes.
i cant remember full part numbers off the top of my head. you can probably find them if you get the racing catalog from brembo. XA4 somethings.

These are actually a spare set from the 996 cup. They've done a bunch of race weekends already but are still pretty fresh.
I've run this type of brembos for a while on both the 996 and 997 cup. They really are staggeringly good though the one minor niggle is modulation which can get buried under their stopping power at times. I had a run in a friends 997 cup on the same brembos but with the super fancy endless pads. Possibly braking nirvana!!! All the nice bits of the RS29 but with some actual grip to them. I need blue pads in my life
