Charity karter breaks world endurance record
Endurance karter 'accidentally' breaks a world record - two years after the event

We reckon the flag might have affected the aerodynamics...
Howard Kayman undertook the challenge back in summer 2010 at the Teeside Karting Circuit in Middlesborough simply to raise £10,000 for Help for Heroes.
Howard completed 1,054.4 miles in the 24-hour period, an average speed of 43.9mph. To put that into perspective, the winning team (as in more than one driver) last 24-hour kart race on the Circuit Alain Prost at Le Mans managed just 1,055 miles in the same time.
It's a pretty impressive achievement, we think you'll agree, but even more so when you consider Howard beat the previous record by more than 200 miles.
"I only found out last week after a friend of mine was looking at the records and said that I had beaten them, I didn't believe it until I investigated further and he was correct," he says. "I didn't go out to try and break the record at all; my main aim was to raise as much money as possible for the charity."
After getting in touch with Guinness World Records, Howard now has an official certificate to confirm his record. Quite something to hang in the downstairs loo, we'd say...
Next, looking into the 48hr record...
It was a pro-kart, the kart held up really well apart from one engine change after it went bang....The guys at Teesside were excellent...
Was doing stints of 2/2.5hrs - the atmosphere was just great and as previous replies, the thumbs up from all the other teams really helped...
Cheers
Howard
