I had 2 new tyres fitted to my Mazda while i was waiting for my gearbox to be sorted In Poulton le Fyled on Saturday afternoon.
I had 2 new fronts and asked for all 4 to be rebalanced as i had a lot of steering wheel shake beforehand. While in there i was watching the guys work and the old guy balancing one of my wheels seen his backside because he couldnt get away early and slammed the door to the workshop in my face.
I laughed it off with the guys in reception.
I then drove away happy with the shakes gone after they said one of me rears had 80 grams too much on it!
I drove 75 miles back to Barrow and yesterday set off South. On the motorway a sound and slight shake started so i pulled in at the next services and gave the wheels a good push and pull and reached under and thouught i could feel some play in the nearside driveshaft. I set off and the car got steadily worse. I changed route and headed for my Sisters in Somerset. I left the car with her mechanic suspecting a goosed CV or similar.
Ive just been informed the wheel nuts were loose and I had almost lost a wheel!
I have just phoned them and gave a b

No, most tyre places advise that you check the nuts yourself after 50 miles, as they may loosen off.
Normally printed on the reciept.
That doesn't excuse potentially killing someone through negligence ,when have you ever done up a wheel to the correct torque for it to come loose 50 mile down the roadNormally printed on the reciept.

Every race we do requires the wheels re-torqued to correct spec. They slacken after every race and always need nipping up slightly.
Alloys are known for it. Could have been negligence and could have just been one of those things.

Consider complaining in writing to the owner asking for a response. The service given appears unacceptable and could easily have caused a significant accident. What's worse (in a sense) is that it was caused through a fit of pique as opposed to a 'normal' error.
Don't threaten, just be firm and assertive.
I have never been asked to check them myself but sort of agree with an above post in that I have usually been told to take vehicles back in 100 miles or so and they will check them.
I've never actually had one come loose in about 38 years of motoring and 30k+ miles per year (so, a lot ot tyres).
You may not get anywhere, but you will have some satisfaction and the errant fitter will no doubt be spoken to.

If they only need nipping up slightly after what a race car must go through then I would have thought a normal road car would have a lesser impact?
weird one this cos i have just had the same thing,was going to kick off big time about it but wifey said as i had found the problem and was ok i should just leave it be.i found mine as i was bringing the car back home to put on ramps and get ready for chatsworth...took socket to wheel nuts and they were hand tight

or were they not done up...will never know.my motor had done about 60 miles,and to be honest i will check my nuts more now....never have in the past and never had this issue.

When I were a lad....I drove 7.5 ton lorries. this was the days before mobile phones (and sat nav, and FM radio was in it's infancy..ok, ok), I'd had the rears changed and got a message when I got to my first delivery to check the wheel nuts as the guy thinks he may have forgotten to torque them up.
Thy were find though.

Either your having a laugh or the worlds gone MAD! So, some granny or similar is supposed to check their wheel nuts? Maybe I'm getting too old but what happened to 'service'? So, let's get this right, DBV8 loses a wheel for instance after having it removed/replaced by some 'professional' ends up in a ditch or worse and it would be his fault for not checking their work?!! So if someone in a similar stuation went back and punched his head in, would it be his fault for having his head in the way?Normally printed on the reciept.
you may jest but i did go back and punch the ste out off a tyre fitter once for ruining a four rims..all the other tyre fitters just stood there and watched...ruined my holiday in cornwall...and i got in deep st for it,mind you he did shrug his shoulders when i first went back...big mistake.

I spoke to them this afternoon and expressed my concern and mentioned i may have to take it further.You may not get anywhere, but you will have some satisfaction and the errant fitter will no doubt be spoken to.
The guy asked me to come to him first before going elsewhere to see if the situation could be rectified.
I guess he was pretty worried. He also promised the guys on the floor will get a good takling to.

Sounds good, you've had a say which hopefully helps (wouldn't help if there had been an accident though) and maybe the fitter may think about customers in the future. good luck The guy asked me to come to him first before going elsewhere to see if the situation could be rectified.
