Does anyone know which car the headlight adjusters are from or where I can get hold of them?
During the summer I want to take my headlights out and change the adjusters, only when I tackle this job I want to have the adjusters with me ready to fit. I know my ones are rusty because the last time I looked at them, they were hard to budge and need changing. Any ideas please?

That's strange - headlamp adjuster threads are normally stainless because of this very problem - you aren't looking at the mounting screws are you? I must admit I haven't looked at mine on the SX but the old 350i round lamps had stainless threads.

If you mean the 'connectors' from the motor to the GRP headlamp pod, mine are/were ordinary steel too, and were rusty. I cleaned them up and used Coppaslip on them so they won't rust up again.
(2.8 series 1)

I don't know where they come from, but I reckon they do look quite like the old style multiple carb throttle connectors/adjusters from stuff like Triumph/Leyland, which might be a clue. But then again, I don't think those had a right and left handed thread as the TVR ones do....

From memory, on the 400se, square headlamps, when I tackled this job last summer, there are two mounting screws and one adjuster screw for setting the beam hight. They were all seized and the beam adjuster screw had some plastic parts that had become brittle with age. If necessary, I can make up new mounting screws from what I have in my garage, but the adjuster screw is a special one with a swivel ball joint end that sits in a plastic holder. That's the one I really want to replace as my existing one is glued together with hot glue. If I try adjusting it again, it could fall apart. I want to know what car these square headlamps come from so as I can source the connecting components. Any ideas from anyone in the know would be very welcome.

I am sure someone will be along to confirm or otherwise but I thought the 400 SE square lights and fittings were Metro?

The 400SE headlights are used on first Metros but also on Sciroccos and Audi Coupe for example. No problem to get a new set from Hella. The lamps could be adjusted with two screws, one on the top and one on one side, these screws are covered with a small spring. The third fixing point is the ball joint in a plastic holder, it will for sure break into pieces even when you touch it.
I've changed the adjusting screws to stainless ones (M5x50) and changed the "ball-inplatic" to something like this

It's just to let the headlights move slightly when adjusting
