What is everyone's preferred exhaust combo then?

As far as I can gather, mine's had its pre cat's removed, and the silencers sleeved. Other than than I'm not sure what else!
All I do know though is that it's pretty bloody loud.

I like the noise, but at times it is almost too loud (like when starting it up!) It does also sound a little agricultural at low speeds. I've heard sleeved silencers might be behind this?

I don't really want to spend big money on it at the moment, but I may look at silencing it slightly (don't hate me!)

So what do you all think is the best combination for the best noise/volume/whatever?

I've no precats, and empty silencers (silencing material/rockwool removed) and not sleeved. Sounds like a fishing trawler at tickover and at 6.5K its indescribably glorious biggrin Pops and bangs on the over-run are epic....... Mechanical music, love it cloud9

I can't decide what to do either. I have my spare exhaust opened up at the moment but can't make my mind up whether to fully sleeve it or try as someone has on here and replace half the baffle pipe with solid pipe.

Ive done similar, took out both perforated pipes from the box, welded in two new pipes with much fewer holes. Put new wadding in, weld up. Sounds proper now, not too loud and not that resonance you get without the wadding...

Clives y piece coming in soon, then it will be perfect!

Still not sure what to do.

Taking it to a local exhaust place tomorrow, so hopefully they can put it up on the ramps and work out what's been done so far!

Don't try to get it done on the cheap. Get a spare and play with that or get a proper job done like ACT. I had mine modified several times, each time getting further from what I was looking for and costing more. I could've bought a whole new system for the amount I ended up spending on cutting and welding - and still sounding crap.
Buy cheap = buy twice/thrice or more. grumpy

I saw that video the other day, sounds great.

Definitely will have to look into the options.

I may look out for a standard exhaust as a spare, and maybe see how that sounds first.

I'm liking the sound of the cherrybombs though.

I've just been reading some old threads, and that's something I've seen a few people recommend (including you I think)

I think my cars had its pre-cats removed already, but I'll have to check.
Maybe I'll keep a lookout for a standard system and go from there.

This was after i sleeved the standard system and left main and precats in..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01x4Cs_PHlY&fea...

This is Phil leaving with my sleeved exhaust fitted to his Chim (main and precats still in)

http://s742.photobucket.com/albums/xx63/golflion/?...

This was after i removed the main and precats and fitted Clives beautiful Y piece

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hM36fIddQg&lis...

Other option is to keep the main and pre cats in, and fit the ACT Cherry Bomb system, personally i wouldnt have the ACT and remove all cats as well,as its a bit toooooooo much..

Now back to precats out, main cat and standard rear box back in!!

Mark you are mental mate silly

I can't believe you didn't like the de-catted with standard box setup?

Could it be you just needed to let a bit of carbon build up inside Clive's Y Piece?

I guess all this does show exhaust mods are all a matter of personal taste.

Personally I would never put the main cat back, sound enhancements aside I'm convinced mine was a big restriction.

Mind you it's MoT time on Monday morning redface

I did discuss the no cat issue with my tester this week and we both felt it will pass if I install the main cat in the boot wink

Well that way the car will be presented for test with it's original cat present, my tester has a lovely little Clio that apparently runs very low emissions whistle
